Eiko and Vivi certainly don't hit it off during their meeting in Conde Petie, but there's a sort of camaraderie that develops as they journey to the Iifa tree. She acts the protective elder and, despite her pompous manner of speaking, she treats him the way a sister might treat her younger sibling. It's incredibly touching when we remember that Eiko has lived a solitary life in Madain Sari, and that she more than likely senses the loneliness in Vivi she knows only too well.
