The thoughts of type.
During our design iteration process we were given many different visual challenges to undertake. One of these visual challenges was ‘Type’ and how and why we made the decisions we did. We always intended to go with A designed type face even in the initial animatic stages of the process. We all felt our story was to dark and to epic to be compromised by something to friendly or to childish. Initially approaching the project with A ‘Times New Roman’. Our tutor understood the reasoning for this initial approach but knew that this was A obvious first move. The choice was not just obvious but lacked who we are and our styles. We felt that the project needed A strong type face something that would last. Last A long time that is, our story is set a far distant post apocalyptic future, where not much can really live or thrive. Due to the fact that this world is so hostile and arid we wanted A a strong type face with solid forms and foundations, only the necessities. A tall strong San -Serif that goes by the name ‘Arial’. We took this type face as a stencil base before we sketched over with the same brush we used for the background designs to create A more cohesive design.

Background by Andrew
Scene 2 Shot 8 - done by Serena, example of how the mutant’s faces have been simplified (not too far from finalised character designs) for easier animation and more nightmarish effect
Partially Coloured Animation Example
Scene 2 Shot 7 - clean up done and jitter effect to show fear
Done by Serena
motion blur trial for opening shot.
Problems to fix : in the original Opening shot, the jumpcuts between walks loks too much like keyframes.
