No Shade in the Shadow of the Cross - Sufjan Stevens
#95. Thom Yorke - Truth Ray (5:13)
Thom Yorke is one busy dude. He only just finished releasing an album and touring with Flea and Nigel Godrich as Atoms For Peace last year, and of course, there are already rumors of new Radiohead album popping up soon, yet he somehow managed to squeeze out a solo album this year. Well, no matter how he did it, I’m not complaining. While Thom obviously saves his very best ideas for Radiohead (as he should), there are still a few great songs on Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes. “Guess Again!” features an ominous piano, underlying bass throb, and a delirious punchline. Later on the album, we have “Truth Ray”, which is even more desolate. A frozen pair of tones are set against the darkness while Thom begs an unseen force to have mercy on his troubled soul.
Best Moment: Right at the beginning of the song where those glacial pipes begin traversing across Thom’s bleak canvas.
The Album [Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes]: 5/10

Ya Hey — Phosphorescent
Ooh. Loving this Vampire Weekend cover.

Phosphorescent - Ya Hey (Vampire Weekend)
One of the most awesome cover songs in a long time. The perfect combination of a good/great original given a very unique interpretation by another fantastic artist. Matthew Houck really makes this his own.
"Dance Yrself Clean" by MS MR
Originally by LCD Soundsystem
New York synth pop duo, MS MR, does a sort of languid and dreamy lounge version of LCD Soundsystem's “Dance Yrself Clean”. The effect is certainly charming as all hell. Especially the back-end when the track picks up and shifts into a shimmering new wave jam.

Anna Calvi | Desire
Totally on an Anna Calvi bender since two weeks. Anna is underrated, this song always gets me, and I am bummed I missed her Berlin show last night.
