Hori Fighting Stick Neo
My first Hobonichi came today. Excited to fill it with nothing but my thoughts about old games. It is all that I think about
Analogue NEO
The Analogue NEO is an all-in-one NEOGEO Arcade System. It is handcrafted in the USA from 100% ash and finished through a process of ebonizing.

Clearly designed by someone who has never actually played a video game, this absurd $1500 three foot long Neo Geo puts the pause button on the back so you don't accidentally pause but puts the cart slot in the perfect location to be bumped with the hand, resulting in a crashed game (if the vibrations from play haven't already done that).
Great job guys, give yourselves a hand!
A few years ago I remade an FLCL AMV I made in 2001, on hardware from around the same time. The sources for the original video were very low quality digital fansubs, in the new version I used the Synch-Point DVD set. I was 17 when I made the original video, it's nothing but random action set to a punk song but I kind of like it all the same. Do people still make AMVs?

gamer;gate
I've been following this thing for a while and I want to say some words about it. Please don't take this as an invitation for debate or discussion no matter what your stance is, I'm not really interested in talking about it and I've heard all the arguments. Sorry for the awful capitalization, etc but it was originally a series of forum posts I hacked into a kinda coherent text entry.
what gamers don't realize is they know deep down modern games are terrible and they are deeply unsatisfied but can't admit that anything could possibly be wrong with their hobby so they externalize that with idiot rage over inconsequential shit viz. game journalists, feminist SJWs, &c.
the problem is that thanks to clever marketing by large game and food companies "gamer" no longer describes a hobby but a culture to the people who have the most invested in it, therefore any self criticism would amount to self hatred in their minds, and criticism from others seems like actual hate speech. it's kinda like the movie "do the right thing" if it were about terrible idiots
the best possible outcome for a marketer is that it's target audience believes using it's product is not only beneficial but makes them part of something larger than themselves. once this happens a certain kind of consumer will do almost anything to keep that sense of importance and belonging (I'm sure many examples are coming to mind). that is the power of corporate speech.
you can bet that the people at EA, MS, etc. love gamer gate because it's going after everything in their way: a fanbase rapidly becoming disinterested in AAA games, indie game promotion by the "mainstream" game media, accusations of sexism in the tech workplace and in the content of the products themselves, game journalists not toeing the line and writing about their own concerns rather than what the advertisers want them to, free/cheap browser or phone games, and on and on
gamer gate was co-opted by the rightwing fringe media early on because it's at heart, a libertarian movement sympathetic to the interests of those who already have the most power over "gamers": the companies that make the games. it's excellent training for the next generation of the culture warrior prison planet crowd. remember kids, you too can be that creepy guy at the office who's always muttering about the "MSM"
the way they style it you're either for gamer gate or a repellent SJW who hates fun and men, but it's possible to love video games and still distance yourself from all movements with questionable motives, politics, etc. relax, enjoy your hobby, and don't let anyone tell you it's anything more than that.
Old video game things that are new to the Internet. Curated by @frankcifaldi.
I rarely promote other blogs here but Redeye's doing God's work, show some love!
I hate to do it but I have to sell my collection of anime LDs because I'm moving in a few weeks and need all the cash I can get. Please help me find these discs a good home!

About GA
Lots of you have asked why the original about page wasn't actually about anything. I promise I wasn't trying to be mysterious, I just didn't think a blog full of scanned images needed any explanation! Since this is now a real blog with words and stuff, it deserves a real about page. Try to contain your excitement.
Playing a simple game on one of the earliest truly portable computers, a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 100 which was designed and built in Japan by Kyocera. Also known as the Kyotronic 85 and NEC PC-8201. The BASIC and OS of this machine were the last pieces of commercial software Bill Gates contributed code to.
Testing a Gravis Ultrasound with one of my favorite installer tunes.
This version of the Commodore 1084 monitor was built in 1989 by Daewoo in Korea. To adjust the vertical height and position you had to disassemble it to access some hidden potentiometers, an extremely irresponsible design choice.
Please don't disassemble a monitor unless you know exactly what you're doing, the high voltages can kill you!

Some words about the $500 Aluminum NES
First of all, I'm not going to give them promotion by linking them. If you don't know what this is about, Google it or be happy you haven't been exposed to their astroturfers on various game forums.
Analouge is a company well known in the Neo-Geo community for being scammers who sell very overpriced products with poor workmanship.
This is what's inside of the $650 wood Neo-Geo they were selling before they moved on to the NES.
The major problem with their aluminium NES is that they cannibalize real systems to provde parts (CPU and PPU) for it, making these systems less available for normal people on the used market, to create an expensive fanshion accessory for rich people. They are also buying up all the NES/Famicom controllers they can get their hands on to resell them on their website for $30-50. Please don't support this sort of cynical exploitation of your hobby.
Whenever you're considering spending a large amount of money, look at the ad copy of the product very carefully. Ask yourself if the people trying to sell it to you seem sincere. Understand that news reports you see about products often contain only information provided by the maker of the product. Don't get caught up in hype.
In your MSX-Fan scans posted on January 25, 2012, there's a pixel drawing of a catgirl fighting aliens. If you still have that issue handy, could you tell me if there's any more information on that image? Is it from a game or just a stand-alone drawing? Thank you in advance.
It's a piece of original fanart sent to the magazine titled "War Cat 20XX" by an artist called "Fly☆Duck". Hope this helps!
