JG Thirlwell will be creating live music and sonic structures for Sylvie Fleury’s ‘Instructions for Twilight’ as part of the Performa Biennial on Nov 22 and 23, 2025.
‘Instructions for Twilight’, an interdisciplinary live installation combining performance, sculpture, sound, and music. For nearly four decades, Fleury has appropriated and parodied the visual language of art history and consumer culture, probing gendered aesthetics and challenging the art-historical canon through a feminist lens. For this Performa Commission, she revisits the legacy of Fluxus and Happenings to create a series of renewed “scores,” blending actions, objects, and sound. The performance also reimagines some of her iconic early pieces — from ‘Car Wash’ (1995) to ‘Walking On Carl Andre’ (1997) and ‘Here Comes Santa’ (2003).
