At any important race, you can pretty much count on every competitor having that all important, undisputed king of clichés, will to win. The champion, however, has the will to prepare to win in October, when it's cold out, and race season seems an eternity away, and you're tired and bored and the blister on the palm of your left hand is getting infected, and you can think of 1001 things you'd rather be doing - but you gear up anyway and go to the boathouse and crank it up. Will to win, yes. Will to prepare to win, yes.
Lido for Time
This sport is beautiful.
Nothing like those morning sunrises on the lake
From time to time I go through phases where I tell myself that I should just quit rowing. It's so hard, takes up all my time, and I feel like I can never be good enough or fast enough. But then all the little things that make this sport so great - seeing little improvements everyday, hearing how proud the coaches are of us, and the support from my teammates who have become family - it makes it all so worth it. I couldn't imagine my life without rowing, and I love that feeling when you realize that you have fallen in love with the sport all over again.
Rowing is a blank slate. You bring to life. You animate it. Use it to learn courage, discipline, respect. And without even trying, you can find yourself a part of a wonderful community.

Never have I been so excited yet so nervous for a regatta.
