AI Student tries to learn how to draw

My friend told me to stop using AI and here I am trying to pick a(n Apple) pencil up (impossible)

Day 4: (June 15, 2026)

I drew Johnny again (because I love him) and decided to try a chibi style. At first, I tried to follow the reference, but I drew him with long legs. My friend (who isn't even a JJBA fan) told me, "Hey, Johnny can't stand up." And I said: "...IM SO GODDAMN STUP-."

So, with my engineering mindset, I did the only sensible thing: I deleted everything and started from scratch! :D

I tweaked a few details, drew him sitting down and looking grumpy (even grumpy, he's perfect <3). The style is somewhat inspired by Terminal Montage, and I used some shading techniques I learned during Day 3 to add a little life to it.

Considering this is my first time doing a chibi (don't judge me, I didn't even draw as a kid, I hated it), I think it turned out pretty cute.

Did you notice his blue lipstick? :]

Day 3 (10/June/2026)

Johnny Joestar, I love you with the intensity of a thousand suns. Every moment of my existence, since I first saw you, has been as if color had arrived in my life and as if art finally held value, despite my pragmatic way of viewing the world. The world wouldn't be the same without you, without your suffering, your (unusual) smile, your blue lipstick that seemed weird to me at first, your dumptruck (which they took away from you in the anime), without your emotional breakdowns, and, above all, without your eternal determination that, no matter how much life tried to screw you over, you stood up and kept going.

Johnny Joestar, you changed my life years ago, and you keep changing it with every spoiler the internet shoves in my throat, even though I've tried not to see previews so I can be surprised when I see you in the anime.

God bless Araki for creating you, the artist for making this fanart [as reference], and my friend for insisting that I keep drawing you, even though I gave up at first because I felt my hands couldn't draw you properly. I did the best I could, and honestly, it’s the first time in my 21 years of life that I feel proud of myself because of a drawing.

I hope I can reach a level of expertise high enough to be worthy of being called an 'artist', keep drawing you in every pose imaginable, and if possible, make many GyJo fanarts.

Day 2 (09/June/2026)

Dolphin-taro

I love his little "hello :]" face. Someday I'll draw Jotaro and his massive muscles, although for that day, I just wanted to draw something simple to practice cell shading.

Day 1 (08/June/2026)

Now we have Pomni from TADC. She's so cute, although I didn't manage to capture the voluminous hair of the original piece, oh well.

I was on a Discord call with my friend while, with his digital animation student expertise, he was guiding me on what to do.

To be honest, I struggled quite a bit with the layers. It was the first time I tried doing such detailed coloring (well, it's just a couple of shadows and blending, but I had never attempted it before!).

I think it turned out well, her traumatized face is adorable to me.

Day 0

I... genuinely forgot I had colored this drawing.

I thought I hadn't colored it (as I mentioned in my first post), uhhh well, I already messed up, so here it is.

I think it's a Pearl from Steven Universe or something like that... I don't know, I haven't watched the show. I opened Pinterest, it looked cute, so I got to work.

Now that I'm looking at it after a month, I notice a lot of mistakes, missing details, and the pose is quite stiff. I don't know who the original creator is, but I left the reference image on the side—all credits go to them.

But hey, as my friend would say: "At least it wasn't made by AI."

How it started

Let's see... I started a few days ago because my friend (a digital animation student) told me to stop being a loser and learn how to hold a pencil, because he was sick of my "AI-generated shit."

I'm not an artist. I've never been one. My thing has always been words, never the visual stuff. (Which is funny, because my sister makes sculptures and draws beautifully... but that's not the point).

The point is, taking advantage of the iPad my family gave me to use for university and note-taking, I decided to open the Procreate app (which I had bought for my sister so she could draw on my iPad) and just... opened it.

To be honest, it wasn't the first time I used Procreate (which you'll see in "Day 0"), but "Day 1" was the day I officially dared to color a drawing.

And honestly... I think it's not bad. Well, my drawings don't look like total shit, and I think that’s something already.

However, I’m guided a lot by my obsessions, so I hope you don't find it weird if I suddenly go from drawing JoJo's 50 times to Sonic or... I don't know, maybe Zelda.

So, well, we’ll see if I manage to gain enough skill to finally bring my own characters to life beyond just describing them with words. Let's see how it goes.
