Game Meets
“What? Anyways…” Mituna says as he sits on a chair and gets ready for the battle.
“Pfft.” She just rolled her eyes and picked up the wii u controller. “You guys ready to get wreckt?”
Game Meets
Mituna nods and follows the girl to the place where the competition will be held.
Roxy shuffles into the undercroft where a couple of the other students are sitting around a tv, the Wii U console beside it as Super Smash Bros. was being played on screen. “I’m jumpin’ in ayy ess ayy pee, dub bee you?” She glances at Mituna questioningly.
Game Meets
“Yes! I mean yes please.” Mituna says. “Oh yeah my name is Mituna Captor.” He adds.
“Wicked name, bro.” She nods. “This way, c’mon. If ya can’t keep up wh me in real life, how canya 'spect to keep up wh me in the comp??”
Game Meets
“Hm? Yeah I’m fine. Hey is this where the Super Smash Bros. competition is?” Mituna asked helping her fix herself.
“Uh huh.” She confirmed. “Upstairs. If you’re headin’ there I’ll show you the way.” Roxy offered, skirt smoothed out, hair back in place, and scarf properly wrapped around her neck.”
Game Meets
Mituna was walking up the stairs to the Super Smash Bros. competition. He was about to arrive in front of the door until he bumped into someone. Who could this person be? Where they a teacher? He was surely sorry for bumping them. Well he wait to see what they have to say.
Roxy wasn’t exactly paying attention to where she was going, instead lost in thought about the same competition. When she bumped into the other, she cursed a little under her breath as she stumbled until she regained herself.
“Oh shit, hey, sorry for that. Y’all good, man?” Roxy asked.
Piece of cake!
Jane nodded, making mental notes of everything she was learning. She was a pretty quick learner, but she needed a fair amount of instruction to make it happen. Roxy was good at guidance, so far. She was laid back and Jane knew if she had any questions, she could go to Roxy for it no problem.
She picked up a menu and looked over the baked goods. It all seemed simple enough. Scones, muffins, pies, sandwiches, things like that. Not too hard. She put on an apron like Roxy said, and then started looking around the kitchen for a recipe book. “Do you have specific recipes for the things you make here?” She asked, puzzled. She couldn’t find one any– oh. There one was.
She grabbed it out of the cupboard she found it in and flipped through them. “Alright, seems simple enough! Now, I do have one question, though. If I were to experiment with my own recipes, how would I go about getting them on the menu, if at all possible? Do I have to ask the manager to sample it, or…?”
“I dunno, like, manager’s pree chill with most the stuff ‘round here. Just like, uhh.... hot damn, you gotta let me try somma your stuff. ‘s been, like, aaaaaages since I last had something that tasted better than soggy paper. So, you bein’ here and working here is both amazing for the peeps who come ‘nd buy food AND for me.”
“So, like, manager should trust my word and stuff, as long as it tastes better than escargo, it’s probs gonna go on the menu. So as long as you don’t set off some fireworks in the kitchen, go wild! Make some cakes and all that jazz, though I don’t think making cakes involve fireworks. Unless the customers really want a bang for their buck.”
Roxy chuckled, grinning brightly at Jane. It was obvious she was just happy to have someone else she can openly engage in conversation with. She then glanced around the back room and grabbed out a spray bottle. “Alrighty, I’ll go give the tables a quick wipe down and then open up the doors. You think you can follow the recipes and stuff?”
“None taken,” Kankri replied. He crossed his arms, slouching a bit which caused his face to bury lightly into Roxy’s scarf. “However, since I really do just have very vague coverage of your triggers, as it seems you don’t have any or don’t know of them yet, I’ll proceed with caution in future lecture–I mean, conversations.” He huffed, disappointed with himself for that slip.
He listened intently, nodding now and then. “I’m not one to judge, as I usually am not in the position to. Although a drinking problem ‘hashtag addiction, hashtag liquor’ could be quite bad, it’s a good thing you were able to get over it; most people find that to be a hard task ‘hashtag withdrawal‘.”
“I also hoped enrolling in Skaia would change me, positively,” Kankri agreed. “That and to hopefully get to control my differentiated aspect a bit more.”
“You don’t really gotta watch what you say and shit, I’m not exac the kinda gal to get my panties all up in a knot over someone shoutin’ ‘FEMINISM SUCKS’, though someone thinking that is kinda shitty, tee bee hch. Eh.” She shrugged yet again. “If only i could let this rain roll off as easy as water off a duck’s back, god damn.”
She scuffed a shoe at a small puddle she was about to step on, lips pursed in annoyance which she then shook off, thinking about the university.
“Broski, tee bee hch, Skaia is like, a hella wicked place and all, but.... I dunno. Something’s itching at me ‘bout the place. I always get this weird feeling that some of the profs aren’t exactly... y’know, there to teach and guide us. Actually, nah, nah, ignore that. I’m probs just being an edge li’l shit or smth.”
Neighbours
Dirk nodded,“Uh, why don’t you come in?” He asked the girl was very pretty, he wasn’t blind to that, but she seemed kind. “I’m Dirk by the way.” he said, he wasn’t short maybe five seven and hair that was clearly bottle blond if the half an inch of black roots were anything to tell by.
“Sure we can uh, chat if you want. ” He said smiling faintly.
She was visibly thrilled with being invited in. “Ty, bro.” Roxy thanked him, slipping through the open door. She wondered if the guy’s roommate would mind having a visitor. “I’m Roxy.” She mentioned, taking in her surroundings with curiosity.
“Damn, you settled in already and stuff? I think I still got half my shit to unpack. I just shoved that shit under the bed to wait ‘til I can get my ass around to doin’ it. You new here too?”Admittedly, Roxy felt a little out of place as she stood there, rocking on her heels.
Late Night Stroll
Cronus Ampora sighs softly, an unlit smoke between his lips, as he dries his hair. The sometimes part fish had clearly just gotten out of the water, the fabric of his white shirt soaked through and his leather jacket probably isn’t too comfortable because of it, but Cronus hadn’t wanted to waste anymore time in the pool area drying off.
While he’d never say he needs his beauty sleep he did want some.
So he was taking the shortest route possible on his way to get back to his dorm, wet hair or no as soon as he gets inside the greaser plans to pass out on the pillows and blankets.
He is in such a rush he doesn’t notice anyone else on the path, although to his credit he also didn’t expect anyone to be out so late so he assumed he didn’t need to, and runs right into someone. It sends the both of them to the ground but Cronus is quick to get up again.
“Ah, shit doll, sorry ‘bout that, didn’t see ya there, but hey guess ya already fallin’ for me,” He smirks down at the person, offering them a hand to help them up.
Roxy wasn’t exactly the kind of girl known to constantly be aware of her surroundings. It came as no surprise when she ran right into another student on campus, having flattened her face with rather soaked clothing before bouncing back and falling smack bang on the ground.
It took the girl a second to realize she was being spoken to. She was grateful to take the guy’s hand as she stood up, lips quirking into a smile.
“Broski, like, how is the whole campus not falling head over heels to get a piece a you. Damn, there should be a law against this.”
As soon as Roxy could stand again, she brushed down her clothes, checked to make sure she ddn’t drop anything, then turned her confident smirk back to the guy.
“What’re you doin’ late out? Gettin’ in a couple more laps at the pool, huh? Niiiiice, man. I was just makin’ a mad dash back to the gym; I left my change of clothes there.”
Piece of cake!
At being crushed into a hug, Jane giggled a bit, happy at Roxy’s enthusiasm. She was precious. “Yeah, it’s going to be really fun!” She assented, returning the hug. And… wow, Roxy was really strong. The hug almost hurt, just a little bit. Like a pinch. A voice in her head told her to hit Roxy for touching without asking. Jane ignored it.
As she was let down, she smiled and patted Roxy’s shoulders. “No worries. No harm done.” She pulled back from her gently, trying hard not to think about Roxy working out. She was probably really attractive when she did– sh, no. Don’t think about that. She tried not to blush a little at the compliments, but failed. She never really got complimented like that.
“Well, since I don’t really know my way around this place, why don’t you train me? I think the boss said you would.” She smiled, smoothing out her skirt.
“Ooooh, yeah, yeah, oh eff see, this way. Still a little time before the place opens so I got some time to kill.” Roxy refrained from attempting to drag Jane along, instead letting the other girl follow along at her own pace as she led her out back and into the kitchen.
“Tada, all your food stuffs is here. I’ll ring the cook and tell him he’s just gotta do cleaning. The dude was actually horrible at cooking. Don’t tell him I said that though, shshshshhh.” Roxy stood by a door on one side of the room, opening it to show Jane. There were two doors down a small hall.
“First one’s toilets, last one’s manager. Mostly the manager lets me supervise and stuff while they deal with accounting and all that bee ess. All the menus and shit out front is set up so, like, toss on an apron and one of those puffy chef hats, let’s get this show on the road! ...do we even have a puffy hat, fuck if I know.”
Kankri turned red, slightly embarrassed. Yeah, people often did point out his constant hashtagging, but mostly out of annoyance. He definitely did not know how to respond to someone laughing about it, however.
“Beg pardon?” He asked, slightly offended. “I personally don’t find anything particularly amusing with my choice of speech. It’s only kind of me to appropriately tag any sort of potential trigger, in fear of offending someone; not to mention, I have no idea as to what your personal triggers are and I’d rather not risk ending up to somehow triggering you because of that lack of information.” He took a few breaths to calm himself down.
“Also,” he added. “Normally, ‘Kankri’ would be preferred. Although I suppose ‘Kank’ would be passive as well, but not as openly welcome.”
“Uh huh, well, it’s jus’ easier to say Kank is all, no offense. The triggers is kinda funny, but whatevs, it’s ur call. I dunno ‘bout my triggers though, tee bee hch.” She shrugged, lifting a hand up to wring out some of her hair. It had stopped flicking out by then, the weight of water having stuck the strands to the sides of her face.
“I used to drink a lot, like, daily. Yeeeaaaah, probs wasn’t the best thing for me to do. I figured out I had a big problemo and pulled my act together faster than you could say rehab, bee see I ain’t goin’ to some ward to have people tell me they’re there to help, nuh uh. So, I’ve been sober for a good few months now. Haven’t touched the stuff since I poured my stash down the drain. Was heartbreakin’, I tell ya, a waste too.”
Roxy huffed, lower lip stuck out. “Boo, no fun. Well, at least now I’m getting better grades and shit, right? Like, I thought it’d be better t’ have a clean slate when I came here, you get me?”
What Roxy said was slightly reassuring, even if her temperature mutation or whatever was genuine or if she just wanted to make Kankri feel better. Probably a mixture of both. And he supposed if they kept arguing over something as trivial as this, playful banter or not, it would get tiring somehow and it seemed Roxy wasn’t going to back down any time soon. Kankri sighed, giving in. “Alright, if you say so.” He took the scarf and wrapped it around his neck, which did provide a bit more warmth, but he still felt awfully bad.
“You’re kind of like the opposite of me,” he said. “You know, since you’re able to withstand such temperatures and all. I, myself, would probably die from a fire that was miles away, an exaggeration, of course, but you get the point, ‘hashtag death mention’. Although the temperature thing doesn’t really have anything to do with my mutation. My skin’s just really sensitive,”
Roxy turned to give Kankri the most bewildered and surprised expression, eyes wide and mouth agape. It took a second or two before she actually did something else, and that something else happened to be guffawing with laughter as she struggled to keep walking.
“Oh em gee, did you really jus’?! Heeeehaahhaah, you just- you just out-loud hashta- hashtagged a trigger! And I thought I was odd enough for saying acronyms whilst speaking, oh em gee, oh e- fuck it, my gawd!” Roxy only settled down from her laughter when she almost tripped on the pavement, having not been watching where she was going.
“Whew, okay, breathin’ is a thing. Welp, like, oh my god, I can’t believe you and I are on the same plane of existence. You’re pree neato, Kank. Is it ‘right if I call you Kank? Whaddabout Krank? Krank up the music! Nah, no, Kank, or just Kankri, I mean, whatevs fine with you.” She shrugs, nonchalant.
Kankri hummed. “Yes, I would agree that that’s quite unfortunate…” Oh well, they’d be seeing each other on campus nonetheless, which was good enough. They could visit each other on occasion, at most.
The car drove by and Kankri was in little hopes that it would stop, but of course it didn’t, wasting Roxy’s efforts. Bummer. Well, he supposed not everyone would want to pick up drenched teenagers from the streets. “I think we’re getting closer, to say the least.” They were still on unfamiliar road, but they’ve been walking for some time now. They ought to have progressed.
Although when Roxy offered him her scarf, Kankri damned himself. This was the second time already someone had offered him an article of clothing because of his goddamn thermosensitivity, and it was a girl this time, nonetheless! Of course, he wasn’t going to classify this kind act under some kind of heteronormative etiquette just because she was a girl, but it was just manners. Roxy was wearing a lot less compared to Kankri, he should’ve been the one to offer her his sweater or something.
“Oh no, it’s fine!” Kankri politely refused her offer. “Besides, I wouldn’t want you getting sick either. You probably need it more than I do,”
Roxy shook her head, refusing to back down from her offer. “Nah, nah, see, I’m chill. Don’t worry ‘bout li’l ol’ me. Pfft, if I wasn’t goin’ to be okay wh-oh my scarf I wouldn’t’ve offered it in the first place!” She reasons, ignoring the rain still pouring down on them both.
She was glad they were most likely getting closer to the university’s campus, it means they both can get warmed up quicker. She wonders what side of the campus they’re going to end up on, east or west? North or south? Either way, she wanted to get warmed up as quickly as possible.
“Like, I got this funky thing goin’ on wh my skin, so my body’s kinda okay-ish with cold? Somethin’ to do with lack of pigmentation and how bee see I got lower body temp it can appear better or whatevs. It’s still cold as antarctica, but not as painfully so. Genetics related thing, too detailed to go into depth on are enn, but I can probs explain it better to you at a later date when we’re not in the middle of a storm freezing out asses off.”
Roxy still tries to offer Kankri the scarf, as insistent as ever. “C’mon, take it. ‘m not gonna let you turn into an icicle ‘cuz you’re too damn gentlemanly or some other shit.”
Piece of cake!
Jane smiled at her, and nodded. “Okay, thank you so much.” She hummed at the idea of getting to work with this girl. Maybe they could be friends. Jane hadn’t had a real friend since elementary school. She finished looking around the shop, and then headed back to her dorm.
Within the next week, Jane had an interview, and was hired onto the kitchen staff at the cafe. She headed out early on her first day to go to work and bake some things for the other employees to sell while she was in class. When she got there, she found Roxy preparing the place for customers. It hadn’t quite opened yet. “Hey, Roxy!” She smiled and went up to the blonde. “Guess who got the job?” Smiling from ear to ear, Jane laughed softly.
As soon as the words registered in Roxy’s mind, the girl let out a high-pitched excited squeal and all but dragged Jane into a hug, unable to contain her excitement. “Oh em geeeeee, this is gonna be so awesome! Like, holy shit, we getta work together and bee see we go to the uni together, I can, like, walk you back and stuff while we smack talk rude customers behind their backs!”
She seemed to realize she was holding Jane a little too tightly and pulled back to eye the other. “Ohno, oops, sorry for that, I just was hopin’ someone else would come an’ work here wh me and stuff, and ’m reeeeaaally glad ’s you, you’re so nice and awesome and wicked, wowza. Did I hug you too tight? Sorry, sorry, I’ve been working out at the gym a lot lately.”
Piece of cake!
Jane giggled at her pun, and then outright laughed at the thought of someone mixing up salt and sugar, covering her mouth. She absolutely did not snort just the slightest bit. She did not! …Maybe she did, just a little. It was barely noticeable, in her defense. “Yes, I think knowing the difference between the two is an important factor in cooking.” She hummed, folding her hands behind her back.
“I can start pretty much anytime. My last class gets over at two, and I can come here early in the mornings to bake some stuff for breakfast, as well.” She was still smiling, holding back her excitement. It seemed she had a new friend on her hands… and a good shot at a new job, doing something she loved. “You think I’ll get the job?”
“Of course you will! Trust me, if anyone knows how to cook, the manager’s sure to call you in ayy ess ayy pee. I’ll give it to them when they get back, ‘kay? If you got your deets and phone number on there you’ll hear back in ‘bout a couple hours? I ‘unno, ‘round then or something. And don’t worry, those times are us’ly the same times I’m on, so I’ll defs be here to help you out and stuff.”
Someone called out “Miss!” And Roxy’s head perked up.
“Comin’, hold your horses.” She turns back to Jane, still smiling. “Look, obvs you know your stuff, you look wicked already in what you got on you, there’s, like, zero dress code or anythin’ going on here, so go wild when you next come in. I’ll pass on your info when manager’s back, ‘kay? I’ll see you round, Jane!” And with a wave of her hand, she hurried off to go serve the next table, writing down their order.
Piece of cake!
Jane smiled at her lingo. Was she saying out the letters of acronyms? That was… so cute. It took her a second to catch onto what she was saying, but it didn’t take her too long, thankfully. She follows her over to the counter, then starts writing down her contact details.
“Well, I suppose you’re in luck, because I’ve been baking since I was about yea tall.” She puts her hand level to the floor at about her waist. She probably started baking sooner than that, but that was the earliest she could remember. When she was done writing down her availability, she handed the little slip of paper back to Roxy. “I’m Jane, by the by. I don’t think I ever properly introduced myself. I’m new here– I’m living on campus at Skaia University.” She was just trying to make conversation at this point, since Roxy seemed like such a sweet girl. She was easy to talk to.
“Ahhh, wicked, wickeeeeeed.” Roxy spoke, folding the paper up and slipping it into one of her pockets. “The last cook we had said he was moving onto a prop’ restaurant and such. I wish him and all that but nobody else has a clue howta cook or anythin’! We’re floundering about lika fish outta water!”
She paused to think over what she just said, then started laughing at her own pun. “Pffft- hahahah! Get it? ‘cuz like, flounder is a fish.” She quickly tried to settle herself though, gotta look professional. and such. Professionals don’t quite have fits of giggles though. “Anyways, uhm, like, when canya start? Not to bother you or anything but, eye em oh,” She leaned closer to whisper, keeping quite so the current temporary cook wouldn’t hear her words, “It’d be better ta have someone who knows the diff between salt and sugar.”
Piece of cake!
Jane smiled warmly at this. Already she found her endearing, and she had just met the gal! But she certainly was very pretty. She glanced at the name tag– Roxy. That definitely matched her personality.
At the offered menu, she shook her head. “Oh, no thank you. I was just looking around…” She admitted, feeling kind of bad that she didn’t have money to buy anything. Speaking of which… “I noticed you had a help wanted sign… How would I go about applying? I’ve never done this before.” She smiled a little, almost sheepishly still.
Roxy’s face lit up and she clasped her hands together, excited. “Oh, man, we’ve been hella worried ‘bout that ‘n stuff, di’n’t think anyone would apply or nothin’. Well, uhm, like, the Manager just hadda quickly run off to do an errand, but, like, the cook we got are enn is temporary bee see he us’lly cleans, but tee bee hch it’s better he cook than me; I’d burn the place down somehow.”
Roxy shrugs and starts to user Jane over to the counter and around it. “Uhm, okay, like,” She pulls out her little notepad and pen and hands them over to Jane. “If ya don’t got a resume or anything just like write down yur contact deets and what times you’re available and like any experience you got, yadda yadda, the usual.”
