Treasure Hunters
Jake English was ridiculously bored.
There were three problems with his current situation: One, the classroom’s AC was broken, and the heat was both mind numbing and terribly stifling. Two, he didn’t give a rat’s ass about the current subject material; history was dreadfully dull, and he had never understood the virtue in discussing the politics of old and dead men. Now, wars were a wholly different topic, and could get interesting on occasion! Unfortunately, the only war was the one on his attention span, and Jake was sorely losing that one.
Third and finally, the teacher’s voice was nothing more than a monotonous drone in the background of his head, and these three factors were doing a spectacular job at lulling him into a hazy stupor. But no! He would not fall asleep!! He would not fall asleep!!!
Normally, this is the part where he would fall asleep, good intentions notwithstanding, but for once, perseverance won out. Jake pinched his thigh hard, dull nails digging into his skin and leaving little pale marks. More importantly, the left a slightly higher sense of awareness in him.
Mark him in for the land of the living! As well as the land of still really fucking bored. For a few minutes, he scanned the faces of his classmates, looking for anyone that he might recognize. Being new at the school was bad enough, but then again, everyone was new to this school. Still, when that was added in on top of his...memory issues, Jake found that he really didn’t know anyone? There was a girl who he was mostly sure was also in his dorm area. What was the name again? Profit? Prolapse? Forget it.
Sitting in the desk about a foot away from him was a blond boy, scruffy haired and seemingly just as bored as himself. The teen looked vaguely familiar to Jake, as if he had seen him passing by in the halls? Who knows. Returning his attention to the (blank) piece of paper on which he was supposed to be taking notes, Jake decided to just ignore the purpose of this entire class for an entirely new objective.
Drawing the mystery fellow next to him. Just some sketchy doodles, nothing fancy. The anatomy was a little out of proportion, and it was clear that Jake was just an amateur, but all in all, it could be worse. He glanced back at the other boy, just for reference, and went pale when he realized that the unnamed teen was staring straight at him.
Shit.
