It's often said that Kyo can read Tohru like a book. He easily senses when something is bothering her, doesn't put her on a pedestal, gives her the space to be selfish, and eventually makes her feel comfortable enough to share her worries and vulnerabilities.

But what I love just as much is how Tohru too is able to make Kyo slowly open up and trust her, to the point that he allows her to casually touch his beads, the symbol of his deepest vulnerability.

After Tohru's unwavering acceptance of Kyo’s True Form, the topic not only ceases to be a secret but also stops being a taboo. Kyo allows her to subtly refer to it without feeling bothered.

He goes from hiding, trying to run away and actively avoiding dealing with it...

to not being fazed by Tohru casually touching his beads and subtly referring to it

and eventually, he becomes comfortable enough to even talk about it.

The beads represent one of his darkest secrets, and it's beautiful to see how he learns to trust Tohru and to be comfortable talking about that subject with her.

But at the same time, it's also heartbreaking to know that the person he learns to trust the most is also the one he cannot share his actual darkest secret (his alleged responsibility in Kyoko's death) because he's terrified that Tohru will hate him for it.

Almost as if his True Form was nothing compared to how bad he thinks his true self is.

Can't watch my beloved fruits basket tonight bc I have a migraine but let's talk about when Tohru was telling Kyo it would be nice if someone cared about her that way (loved her) and he says so you've got a crush on someone, huh? And she denies it but he tells her don't worry, when you do fall in love, I'll be rooting for you.

Meanwhile we know he is secretly in love with her he cared about her so much he didn't even let himself be sad or jealous he just wants her to be happy
