one of the most horrific things that have appeared to me in my dreams/hypnagogic states were silent and simple. they made no noise, save for maybe the slightest sounding wisp of air swishing around its movements. it did not appear to me vividly, because it did not need to at that time. the intent i read from it was pure efficiency. yet, that fear was only my initial feeling

i will bring it forward. i believe it so well, that i won’t even fret over whether i’ll see it in this lifetime or not
i see more than i have ever seen before, though. that is good
it seems that narrative is still predominant. yet, i would be ready to embrace another one. alas
Nature taught me that peace is found when we change how we relate to silence, stillness, and solitude.
Yet many of us fear being alone-because at one time, it meant being unloved, abandoned, or left behind.
But silence is not emptiness.
It's where the presence of love speaks without words.
It's where the love that never ends reveals itself.
(from Unfinished Vow)
We have inherited a powerful narrative of individualism, in which we are separate entities in a competitive world and success is measured by private achievement. And when we suffer, the same narrative tells us the suffering is private too: a personal failure, a chemical imbalance, a problem to manage alone behind closed doors, perhaps with professional help but certainly without troubling the community. My father believed this. He carried the beaches of the war inside him for six decades because his culture had taught him that a man’s wounds are his own business. Here I want to name it as the shadow side of individualism: a culture that teaches us to succeed alone will also teach us to suffer alone. When we treat suffering as a private event we amputate it from its causes and deprive the sufferer of the one medicine that addresses the root, which is the experience of not being alone.
