Crown Prince Guillaume and Princess Stéphanie on Sunday announced the birth of their first child, a boy who will be second in line to the Grand Ducal throne of Luxembourg.⁣ ⁣ Charles Jean Philippe Joseph Marie Guillaume was born at 5.13am at the Grand Duchess Charlotte maternity ward, weighing 3.19 kg.⁣ ⁣ The hospital allows partners to be present during birth and in recovery, with coronavirus safety measures in place.⁣ ⁣ Later on Sunday, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa met their new grandson for the first time via a video call. Japan's new emperor, Naruhito, has formally ascended to the Chrysanthemum Throne, replacing his father, Akihito, who had abdicated a day earlier. His wife is now known as Empress Masako. ⁣ ⁣ Naruhito became the 126th Emperor of Japan, the latest in an unbroken line that stretches back 14 centuries.⁣ ⁣ During the special ritual in the palace's Matsu-no-Ma state room, an almost exclusively male audience saw Naruhito, 59, take possession of royal regalia and seals, including a sacred sword, that provide ceremonial proof of his ascension.⁣ ⁣ Emperor Akihito of Japan abdicated on 30 April 2019, the first Japanese Emperor to do so since 1817. This marked the end of the Heisei era and the inception of the Reiwa era. ⁣ ⁣ He received the title of Jōkō (上皇, Emperor Emeritus), an abbreviation of Daijō Tennō (太上天皇), upon abdicating, and his wife, the Empress, became Jōkōgō (上皇后, Empress Emerita).⁣ ⁣ The Enthronement Ceremony for Emperor Naruhito is scheduled to take place on 22md October 2019, marking the end of the transition period.
