hi thank you! i have been focusing on real life. i also needed time away to reassess my role on this blog because i tended to post things i was being sent just for the hell of it and it wasn’t doing me or anybody that was being posted about any good. i may rework my pinned post/rules to come back.. we will see. thanks for checking in <3

another anon here who also agrees with everything said so far on the conversation re: group plotting

having been in a long established semi-plotless rp group here i also believe in "winging things" rather than delving into a detailed bullet list plot between characters. if there's an opportunity to give characters a history together i'm all for it and seeing where things go. i've found the best plots and connections i've enjoyed personally come from natural chemistry and the vaguest of plans with no confirmed direction for where things'll go.

and guess what? other people in the group will enjoy seeing and getting involved in these interpersonal plots more than witnessing some forced ship shoved together that's publicly declared as future endgame.

this, i feel, is what collaborative storytelling truly is in a group setting.

i agree with what you said to the anon. i don’t mind going with the flow if the other mun prefers it, but when you’re in a group where there are set families and some vague plots to tie these characters together, it’s kind of hard to move plots along when the muns are unresponsive ooc but are still writing back and forth with their muses’ potential romantic connections on the dash ig. in this case, i don’t think there’s anything the admins can do.

that’s fair and i tried to account for those situations in my reply. i know it isn’t very popular but when groups have these plots where there is pre-established connections required for things to make sense… a skeleton or subplot is probably the best way to combat this. as little as keeping a good bit of info open but giving each muse at least two connections similar to my previous reply where it says just “friends” and the specifics come later. in my own experience i have found better luck in groups like skeleton and bio where more effort is required to apply and participate. that’s not foolproof though groups like that can still go belly up quickly

why do muns react to plotting calls, and think that's them pulling the most effort? they're dry plotters, too. i would suggest possible connections and even mention for them to provide input. and all i'd get was "that sounds fun!" or "i love your idea!" or " wow those work for me!! let's do it!" // i have the same question and i wish people who weren't interested in plotting would just leave the plotting call tf alone bc you're wasting my time and energy. we DON'T HAVE to plot if you don't wanna, i'd genuinely rather have 2 ppl who are actually interested in plotting react to my plot call rather than trying with frustrating people like this :D you'd think having a decent list of wanted connections in your intro would make establishing connections easier but no. even picking ONE that'd work for one of their muse(s) is impossible. y'all bitches can't do anything fr. some ppl just like to make others' plotting experience hell it seems

i may be wrong on this but this is a possibility i think and it’s that plotting has become so engrained into group rps that if you don’t get in there quickly you are, sometimes perceived, likely to lose out on quality plots with others. i am a huge believer in chemistry over plotting and i believe a lot of other writers are too. it becomes difficult with the plot of the group is centered around something that would then require plotting for example a small town where it makes sense that muses have history and plotting should be done to reflect that. maybe to combat this admins should make chemistry only in the rules? and when it comes to those town rps i mentioned the only plotting allowed is reading one another’s intros and picking “childhood best friend” “sworn enemy” “ex lovers” and the details can be hashed out once a few replies or threads have taken place.

we grow up on east asian stars and use ea fcs as a result too. and while we do use ea fcs, we also do use fcs from our own countries too.

i don't know if this feels like bringing up stale topics but i got reminded of the convo around asian muns who are not east asian using ea fcs, and how western muns perceive it as fetishizing ea faces. a point that i would like to raise is that east asian celebs and entertainment industries have long targeted other asian countries and regions as one of their main markets. sea, for example, has been one of their main target markets for years now, even from as early as the 1980s. to us, east asian celebrities are just like regular celebrities. we grew up with them as part of our daily entertainment. kdramas and cdramas and jdramas are often played on our local television channels. they come here to promote their works and hold concerts and fanmeetings. they are brand ambassadors of our local brands too. western muns grow up on hollywood stars and use hollywood fcs as a result. we grow up on east asian stars and use ea fcs as a result too. and while we do use ea fcs, we also do use fcs from our own countries too.

How do you trim reblogs on mobile? I prefer tumblr rp and gifs I don’t get too worried about not adding but most groups have a rule to cut your posts and I haven’t found a way to be able to do that. ///

i don't trim them! but on mobile if you have gif packs open in a browser on your phone you can add them by doing copy image address and pasting them in the post editor like you do on desktop. it's a bit more annoying than writing a reply on desktop but it's an improvement from the decade ago where we couldn't do this on tumblr mobile at all.

the groups i've been in haven't really cared about mobile posters not trimming their replies so long as it's known that that person can't cut because they're mobile. i personally tag my mobile reply posts wtih something like "can't cut mobile" and my partner gets the idea to cut on their end. then when i get on desktop i can trim the posts on my end later.

ah see as someone who is almost never on their desktop that probably wouldn’t work for me but it’s good to hear the requirements on that relax a bit

i find it so funny that this discord group rp i'm in has rules on diversity and wanting to play characters of different races and gender identities but the main mod has 2 characters of color out of 6 all his characters are cis men or some offensive attempt at trans/enby using cis male fcs. make it make sense.

is the activity equal on all of them or does it seem performative to get around their own diversity rules?

tumblr isn’t exactly mobile friendly and is still aesthetics heavy. discord can be easier for people to participate in quickly and on the go. but i understand the heart of your plight here. it always sucks when you see something interesting but it’s not on your preferred platform

i disagree here, i find tumblr to be much more mobile friendly than it used to be with the beta editor and trim reblogs. not every place on tumblr is aesthetic heavy though and even on discord do people write novels and take weeks to reply.

i personally feel discord rp groups are way more toxic and exclusive than even the culture on tumblr because of how closed off everything is. and the introduction of so many venting channels.......i've never seen a discord rp group with a venting channel last longer than a few months because of how the negativity spread.

no i appreciate it! i will be honest i haven’t been in a tumblr rp in ages maybe it is easier now. i also haven’t been in a discord rp that has a vent channel thats always been a no-no in the rules so i may be missing out on some toxicity there

agreed, it this persons is taking commissions names do need to dropped with proof. i am also not a gif user the most i’ve reached for them in years is for intros and bios. even then i tend to gravitate towards avatars (like jcink avatars images) because the creators for those do beautiful work.

being in groups makes me feel like shit sometimes 😭 especially on discord where you can see other people excitedly plotting and blatantly ignoring the plotting threads they have with you. /////// THISSSS omg. i’m in a group i love but sometimes it’s awkward seeing how some people flat out ignore most of the rp while publicly talking only to their friends. like why are you in a group? lol
