When Haruki Murakami said, "Sometimes I feel like a caretaker of a museum - a huge, empty museum where no one ever comes, and I'm watching over it for no one but myself." And when Audrey Hepburn said, "Living is like tearing through a museum. Not until later do you really start absorbing what you saw, thinking about it, looking it up in a book, and remembering - because you can't take it in all at once."
I’ve had to learn to be kind to myself, and I think characters are a therapeutic way for me to do that. When Beth and I aligned, I’d had a really crazy year, because I made Emma, had a day off, then I did Last Night in Soho, had a day off, and then it was The Queen’s Gambit. For the first time, I was like, “I need to take care of myself in a very aggressive way, because otherwise I’m not going to be able to do this well.”
this pandemic will end and you’ll claim the window seat in your favorite cafe, stand in a crowd at a concert, visit a museum and make crappy art in the park. sometimes things feel like they’ll go on forever, sometimes bad things feel heavier than good things, sometimes life feels like it’s slowing down and all you’re doing is waiting for the full stop— but just because this hopelessness is all that you’re feeling right now, doesn’t mean that it’s all there is. there’s always more and you will experience that, and you will feel alive again.
2021 Reading Challenge!
Week 3: February
Question 1: What are you currently reading? Why did you choose to read this?
I am currently reading All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr! I selected this book because it is one of the oldest books on my to-be-read shelf on Goodreads. I also have been wanting to read it because I have read that it is a very good book! Also, one of the main characters, Marie-Laure, is blind and this is interesting to me because I have never read an entire book with a blind character. So, I really appreciate the representation! I am enjoying it so far.
Question 2: Do you always finish the book, even if you are not enjoying it?
Yes! I feel very uncomfortable if I do not finish a book that I already started because I feel that every book has something to offer to us regardless of our personal experience with it, so I feel that I should give every book I start to read a chance. Personally, I have had experiences where reading a book has been unbearable or uncomfortable, but in the end it has been worth it to learn what the book has to teach.
See ya next week! 🌊
Currently Reading:
1) I’m currently reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and Brit(ish) by Afua Hirsch. Although they are very different books, I’m really enjoying both of them.
2) Almost always! I tend to be a bit of a completionist. But, if it’s really long and I’m not enjoying it, I will DNF. Sometimes, if I’m just not in the mood, I’ll put it down and try again at a later date.

the way that Francis was probably the most sane of the six in The Secret History is troubling
when I was in high school a comment I got very often was that I should get used to long classes and long exams because that’s what university is like but now with online classes more ppl realized that we can not concentrate on a screen for so long and the thing is maybe it’s not only a screen thing maybe 4 hour long classes are not healthy and maybe we do not learn as good with classes like that I am tired of education being a challenge and something you have to overcome education should be something nice something to enjoy and teaching should be as smooth as possible and not a way to make people stressed and sick just to let the best one survive

it’s legitimately so fucked up and heartbreaking that in this society the ability to just like…relax and have fun with friends and loved ones is like…considered something you have to earn or make time at your own expense for. it should be regarded as one of the inalienable cornerstones of being human. i’m not joking, like the fact that having fun and chilling with your buds is considered an expendable frivolity instead of a vital core need is heartbreaking. not that capitalist society has ANY vital core needs that it’s not prepared to gate behind a monetary cost though lmao.
