"Exactly. I've had a long day."

Yunjin laughed.

Meanwhile, Daniela had just come back from the water with Megan and Sophia.

Her hair was damp, and she looked suspiciously happy.

Her eyes landed on Y/N. And stayed there.

Lara noticed immediately. "You know she's not going anywhere, right?"

Daniela nearly jumped. "I wasn't staring."

"You absolutely were."

"I wasn't."

"You've looked at her three times in one minute."

"Fuck you."

Lara grinned."Love you too."

"Picture!"

Everyone groaned."Come on!"

Yunjin was holding her phone up."We need a beach photo."

Eventually, everyone gathered together.

Megan looked around."Where's Y/N?"

"Right here."

She hadn't moved. At all. Sophia sighed.

"Get up."

"No."

"Get up."

"No."

Megan and Yoonchae physically pulled her to her feet.

"There."

The group squeezed together.

Without really thinking about it, Daniela ended up next to Y/N. Their shoulders touched. Neither of them moved.

"Smile!" Sophia said.

Click.

"Okay, now a silly one!"

Everyone made ridiculous faces.

Y/N looked unimpressed. Daniela laughed at her expression. The camera caught it.

After the pictures, everyone split off again.

Megan and Yoonchae returned to the water.

Sophia went shell hunting with Lara.

Manon stayed under the shade.

Y/N had reclaimed her spot on the towel.

A few moments later, someone blocked the sun.

She looked up. Daniela. Holding sunscreen.

"Yes?"

"Can you help me?"

Y/N blinked. "With?"

Daniela held up the bottle.

"Oh."

"Please?"

Y/N sighed. "Okay."

Daniela smiled. Then sat down in front of her.

Y/N uncapped the bottle. Poured sunscreen onto her hands. Then stared.

Because suddenly...This felt way more intimate than it should.

Daniela looked over her shoulder. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah."

A beat.

"No."

That made Daniela laugh.

"You offered."

"I know."

Another laugh. Y/N rolled her eyes.

Then gently spread the sunscreen across Daniela's shoulders.

Her back. The back of her neck.

Trying very hard not to think about the fact that Daniela's skin was warm.

Or that she smelled like sunscreen and sea salt.

Or—

"You're concentrating really hard."

Y/N blinked. "What?"

"You look stressed."

"I'm not stressed."

"You are."

"I'm literally putting sunscreen on you."

"Exactly. Why do you look like it's a final exam?"

That made Daniela snort.

"Stop moving." Y/N said.

"I'm not moving."

"You just laughed."

"That's not moving."

Y/N shook her head. Then continued.

A few feet away—

Sophia looked up.

Then paused.

"Oh."

Megan followed her gaze. "...Oh."

Yoonchae looked too. "...OH."

Lara looked over the top of her sunglasses.

A smile slowly appeared. No one said anything. They just watched.

Because—

From a distance?

The scene looked ridiculously domestic.

Daniela sitting between Y/N's legs while she carefully put sunscreen on her back.

Like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Then Daniela glanced over. "Why is everyone staring?"

Y/N didn't even look. "Don't turn around."

"What?"

"Just trust me."

Naturally, Daniela turned around.

Everyone immediately looked elsewhere.

Sophia suddenly became fascinated by a seashell. Megan looked at the ocean. Yoonchae looked at the sky. Lara was smiling far too innocently. Manon trying not to laugh.

Daniela slowly turned back.

"They're watching us."

"Yep."

"Why?"

Y/N finally looked at her. "...Because this looks very couple-y."

Daniela smiled. A small one.

"Well..."

She looked at Y/N. "At least we're sticking to the plan."

Y/N stared at her for a moment.

A tiny smile appeared on her face too. "I guess we are."

And for just a second—

Neither of them looked away.

Y/N finished rubbing the last bit of sunscreen onto Daniela's shoulder.

"There."

Daniela glanced back at her. "Thanks."

"No problem."

For a moment, neither of them moved.

The sea breeze was nice. The waves were calm.

Then Daniela's eyes wandered. And blinked.

"Huh."

"What?"

She pointed. "Since when are Sophia and Lara... close?"

Y/N followed her gaze.

A few feet away, Sophia and Lara were sitting together under the shade.

Close. Suspiciously close.

Sophia was saying something while Lara laughed.

Then Sophia brushed a strand of hair out of Lara's face.

Y/N blinked. "Oh."

"Right?"

"That's..." She paused. "...new."

They both watched. Neither of them had really noticed before.

Then Sophia handed Lara her drink. Lara took a sip from the same straw.

Daniela looked at Y/N. "Have they always done that?"

"No."

"Like... ever?"

"No."

"Am I missing something?"

"Maybe."

They looked back.

Sophia said something. Lara laughed again. Then lightly shoved her shoulder. Sophia just smiled.

"Do you think...?" Daniela trailed off.

Y/N looked at her. "You think what?"

"I don't know."

"Very insightful."

"I'm serious."

"So am I."

Daniela laughed softly.

Then looked back.

A few moments passed.

Then Sophia looked up. Caught them staring. And waved. Perfectly normal.

Lara waved too. Also perfectly normal.

"Maybe they're just becoming better friends," Daniela said.

"Maybe."

Neither sounded convinced.

Then Sophia leaned closer to Lara and whispered something. Lara immediately smiled.

The two looked at each other.

"None of my business."

"Absolutely none of my business."

They nodded. Then simultaneously looked away.

"We'll figure it out eventually."

"Probably."

"And if not..."

Y/N shrugged. "Good for them."

Daniela laughed. "Good for them."

And with that, they let it go.

Completely unaware that under the shade, Sophia and Lara were having their own moment.

And equally unaware that this was definitely not the first time they'd sat that close.
