“And I’m not saying you’re wrong, but some will put timelines on trauma,” Destiny chuckled. “They’ll drag things out until no one actually remembers why they cut out anything social.”
“It’s just depressing, we had that thing for everyone and then we also had a break away from school and now we’re just supposed to spend the rest of the school year miserable when we’re meant to be living life to fullest? Especially in our world, the way it is.”
“Oh yes. By all means.” Sarcasm tangled with his tone. The dagger-tipped crimson tail flicked behind his head, whipping from each side. He was a lot of things, but he was also aware of just how one consuming thought with celebration would implicate others’ state of mourning. “Extract selfishness from your intent and empathize with those who are currently grieving. You’ll see why these thoughts of ‘partying’ are horrible.” Turns back to finish his sketch.
Ruby rolled her eyes. “We already had a ceremony and a break away from the school what more can we do? Are we supposed to have all this negative energy just like a dark cloud around the school for the rest of the year?” she scoffed. “It’s not selfishness, I just think we all could use a little fun.”
Caroline rolled her eyes at her sister. Sometimes she really had trouble believing they were related, let alone as closely as half-sisters. “Jeez, Ruby, your compassion really is overwhelming sometimes, you know?” she said. She huffed, running a hand through her hair. “Then just throw one yourself,” she said. “Just put if you’re still sad, don’t come – you’ll ruin the vibe on the invite.”
“It’s not that I don’t care, it’s quite the opposite!” Perhaps she was a bit emotionally stunted. Growing up the way she did Ruby had internalized a lot and brushed things off as much as she could. “I just think something to take everyone’s mind off and lift some spirits around here is just the thing we all need.”
“Party city? When they could just hire a designer and party expert like myself?” Wren chuckled. “And here I thought you kept me around for my incredible personality and my charming good looks.” He said with a dramatic flick of his long dark hair. “You know I’d host one in heartbeat, it’s just the matter of getting Marina out of the dorm… she’s not a big party person and I don’t want her to hate me.”
“Well you know what I mean.” she waved her hand about casually. “Darling.” Ruby drawled. “I keep you around so I can steal your elaborate jackets and your party throwing abilities.” she grinned. Ruby scrunched her face up dramatically. “A party might do her some good don’t you think? How can she be mad with a little tequila.”
“Ruby, babe. I’m all in with you. But you gotta be a little more careful with what you say and how loud you say it.” Wren said with a chuckle. She was right, it was a little bland around here. He had to go out to the city to party. “Maybe we should host another dorm party? It’s been a while.”
“Wrennikins - all I’m saying would it kill them to boost the morale around here? Get some decor from party city or something.” she threw her hands up. “ouuuuu - I do love a good dorm party and I can wear that sequin get up...this is why I keep you around boo boo.”
“Now see, if I’d been the one to say something like that, there wouldn’t have been whispers about me being a callous bitch,” Destiny noted in an amused tone. “They would have been outright accusations.”
“Well sure if you’re using that tone darling.” Ruby waved her off not taking the comments too seriously. “All i’m saying is a little boost in morale would be nice around here and I have a lovely dress I brought back with me from break.”
“This place is majorly bumming me out. There hasn’t been a party in weeks and I know people died I get it but we can’t mourn forever can we?” Ruby might have been a little self involved and ostentatious but her heart was usually in the right place. “I just mean - shouldn’t a disaster like this mean we live life to the fullest?”
