It Is Well With My Soul
Acts 12:5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. That's the usual believers' response in a perilous, or crisis situation. Beyond that, Jesus taught the disciples how to pray by addressing God "Our Father". Believers become member of God's family. Living creations exist and thrive when they have the means to connect, communicate with each other.

The 1st-century believers gathered on lockdown for fear of the Jewish leaders according to John 20:19 after the death of Jesus. Suddenly He appeared.
5 Excuses of Moses: Why I Am not the man for the job? Given a divine assignment, many mighty men of God in the Scriptures started off with excuses, reluctance, fear, insecurity or doubt. From Jonah to Gideon, each one gave a litany of excuses countered by our loving God... which excuses you can relate most? click here
If I tell you the names and the story the 3 Wise Men — Balthasar of Arabia, Melchior of Persia, and Gaspar, do you know where they are from? From Armenian tradition. They were not from the Bible. The Bible did not specify the number of Wise Men either.
However, there were 3 gifts, gold, myrrh and frankincense which could be the reason many people believe there were 3 Wise men. But let me first call your attention to a specific verse below:
“4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:” Matt 2:4,5
From the passage above you can tell exactly how these religious leaders and experts of the law showed their faith in their Messiah. They knew the Savior they represent would be born in Bethlehem according to their Holy Scriptures. But these religious people had chosen to stay in the comfort of their homes. Compared to the Wise Men who traveled a thousand-mile bringing their gifts… for what purpose? Click here

Outreach Program- Smokey Mt
just for fun
The three-month Discipleship Training School in YWAM Kona, Hawaii highlights a mission outreach program where students travel to unreached people groups overseas. After praying and asking God for direction, the students become excited with the answered prayers for a particular nation's outreach. Anyway, a student prankster shares this funny story that traveled all the way to Balut, Smokey Mountain. Here how it goes:
My American missionary friend travels to the Philippine Island with a group of medical professionals for their missionary outreach program. She owns a purry Persian cat which she entrusted to the care of her younger sister. Three weeks passed by, my missionary friend phoned via long distance to her younger sibling. She asked how ’s everything at home.
After a casual chit chat, she eagerly asked about her Persian pet. “ Okay little sister how’s my cat “
“She died”, said her younger sister. There was a long silence.
My friend exploded in anger and disappointment. “ You are very insensitive! Didn’t you know how I ‘am attached dearly to my cat? You should have broken down the bad news to me.
On my first call, you should have replied – ‘she’s playing on the roof’. That’s when I asked you ‘how’s my cat?”
On my second long-distance phone call, ‘she fell down and she’s in the hospital’
Finally, on my third phone call, I assume you already know what you should say, — ” the vets did what they could but it’s too late, she’s gone”...
“Well, you got it? So, by the way, how’s grandma doing?”
“She’s playing on the roof”
Praying Together
So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. Acts 12:5
A long time ago, a certain king bought a big bell to be used as a signal for his people to pray on sunrise and sunset. He made a special order from overseas. Therefore the huge bell needs to be transported into a boat as a heavy cargo. Unfortunately, upon leaving the pier, the boat flipped during the raging storm and the huge bell fell out and sank underwater. The boat crew panicked. They exhausted all possibilities to retrieve the submerged bell. Experts, engineers came to the rescue using something like a boom and crane but proved futile. It’s getting dark soon.
Meanwhile, at the bank or the shore, a tribal chieftain hollered “ Do you need help over there guys?”. The captain and the expert looked at each other in utter disbelief, “how can an uneducated tribal people solve our problem?” Out of frustration, the captain yielded to the chief ..”okay, go ahead make my day! , The chieftain called out all his people, had a brief conference and they all run towards the forest away from the chieftain, away from the boat, away from the problem. A few minutes later, the tribal people came back running and yelling, carrying long bamboo poles. They jumped and dived into the water, then tied those bamboo shafts around and inside the bell. Lo and behold, the huge bell begins to float little by little until it surfaces onto the water.
Maybe that’s what happens in the spirit world when believers all pray together however big is the problem, the burden becomes lighter. Perhaps the encouragement and support we receive when we know our church people are praying for us tend to alleviate our tensions and emotional heaviness.

Monkeys are generally considered intelligent creature according to Wikipedia. They are agile and they can swing on trees easily. Monkeys can be tree- dwelling although there are species that live primarily on the ground, such as baboons. So my topic “how to catch an (intelligent) monkey and beware of falling on your own (self-made) traps” sounds like an oxymoron. I suspect we sometimes behave like monkeys. Some people believe we evolved from monkeys.
MISSING LINK
I wonder about the so called “missing link” as my pastor defended his faith to a guy who angrily insisted that all humans come from monkeys. The debate went on and on. Finally exasperated , my pastor blurted out meekly “Okay, okay no problem. If you firmly believe your family descended from monkeys and gorilla then so be it. Just leave me alone. As for me and my family we are all humans we came from Adam and Eve”. Problem solved, but please don’t use the same approach to evolutionist.
WAYS OF CATCHING MONKEY
I watched on You Tube how to catch monkey in India showing a man tricks the monkey with food then he grabs its tail. Then the man rotates like a “trumpo” while holding the monkey by the tail. He releases the monkey in the air. The centrifugal force throws it away to a net sack held by another man. Presto, the monkey is caught inside the net.
Meanwhile hunters in Africa make a hole on a trunk of a tree or hardened clay as shown in the video below (downloaded from You Tube). The hole is just large enough for a monkey to insert its hand. The hunter put nuts, or some fruits inside the hole enticing a monkey to see these baits.
The monkey inserts its hand through the hole to get the food. But with the prize in its grasp, the monkey cannot pull its hand back when it grabs the bait. The hunter then ties a rope to the monkey’s head. Caught by surprise. Would not let go of its prize, so it becomes trapped. The idiot gives up its freedom, not willing to let go while holding its prized possession. The monkey probably acting out of instinct doesn’t have the ability to recognize the danger of falling into a trap.
HUMAN INTELLIGENCE
So why monkey is considered intelligent? Humans are intelligent too and we thought we can avoid falling into a trap. We have the ability to recognize and understand the danger of holding to things that can hurt us. Fire or a hot rod burns us. We know things that render us ineffective, stale or stagnant in our growth. Many times we know and predict consequences of our actions but we’re blinded by the pleasures we get from them. Or we have not settled in our heart the right convictions prior to the incident. No values. No principles. We will just cross that bridge when we get there.
Beni Walchli, a friend from Gleanings gave a powerful challenge after sharing this monkey story. ” You don’t have God’s blessings because you are stuck or absorbed in many things.” he said. Some areas in our life are off limits to God and we don’t want to surrender such. Maybe this part is okay for the Lord to touch but this one He cannot touch, its none of His business. We go to a full day concert or a football game but gripe with the 1-1/2 hour church service. We spend hundreds of dollar in shopping yet regret the 10 or 20 bucks on the offering.
TRAPS WE CREATE
Remember Haman, in the book of Esther 7:10, he fell into his own trap when he designed a gallow to hang a Jew Mordecai who refused to bow to him. The King in the end, commanded that Haman be impaled on the pole he had set up for Mordecai.
Most of the traps in our life are those we create ourselves. We hold on to things that don’t serve us well. Trapped because we buy things we want instead of things we need. Credit bondage? I like this definition. Credit card is buying things with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t like.
We also hold on to grudges and past mistakes. We grumble and whine. Clinging hard to the privilege of being right. Not to let go of anger and resentment, we just can’t forgive. Habit bondage? We call it addiction. We tend to eat, drink or smoke a lot when stressed out. Those things may result to being obese, etc. Pleasurable acts becomes habit. Then later become addictive behavior. Whereas those painful past in which we dwell builds up like callouses isolating us from mending relationships.
We attach ourselves to material things that are of little value; and oftentimes we put our possessions ahead of our own well-being. We just can’t let go of things or of our evil desires. Not realizing that our relationships with people are more important than things. Let us examine those things that we treasure or they might become a trap that hinders our spiritual growth.

How to catch an elephant?
Breaking free from the shackles that binds us.
An elephant weighs about 24,000 lbs and stands 13 ft tall in height. They move so strong, fast and agile that its trunk can uproot a tree, or it can pick up an object as small as a single blade of grass. But despite their enormous power do you know elephants can be shackled by a small wooden peg into the ground. How?
The answer is : While still small, the growing elephant become used to being chained in its foot by a metal peg securely fastened to the ground. This restrains the elephant until it stops struggling anymore to break free. Because as it wiggles the more it feels the harrowing pain. Therefore, it surrenders and gave up trying to break lose.
If you think about it, we are all like the circus elephant. We all have potential, incredible power inside us. We have it in us to take on the world. But of course, our own chains and pegs restrain us.
LIMITING BELIEFS AND BONDAGE.
Our self-limiting beliefs hold us back. They paralyzes us. Sometimes it’s a painful childhood experience or an early memorable failure. Maybe it’s something we were told when we were younger. Those words spoken to us by authority figures become ingrained in our spirit. That becomes our chain and peg, holding us back from doing what we are capable of, stopping us from achieving what was well within our powers. Bad habits happens easily, no sweat and they sometimes crept in unaware. It becomes addictive as we derive pleasures in them. Until we become in bondage to it. On the other hand, healthy habits are difficult to make because it takes a lot of hardwork and discipline.
WORDS HAS POWER
Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21nkjv). Words that has been spoken to you in the past for the most part shaped who you are today. Maybe your parents or some authority figures called you a moron, buffoon, or a loser. Those people degraded the image of God in you because we are created in His image. As a starter, ask God to heal your mind from the past, express your forgiveness and begin to live in the present. If enemy the Devil reminds you of your past, remind him of his future in the Name of Jesus!
ONLY ONE CAN SET YOU FREE
Now its time to break free from your bondage, “And you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free” (John 8:32). In the Bible, the Truth is a Person – He is none other than our Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6). Whatever type of bondage, self-limiting beliefs or even addictions you have— low self esteem, debts, alcohol, porn, etc. Pray and ask God’s for help and guidance. As He leads you, seek counsel from your spiritually mature friend or leader.
How to remove bad toilet odor fast?
Few seconds after I boarded a jeepney in Manila, the passengers started looking at me and covering their nose. I know I took a shower , wore a clean shirt and pants so I was confident that wasn’t me.. Some passengers put a cigarette in their mouth and lighted a match, Oblivious until someone told me “ you probably stepped on a manure or something.” I turned the sole of my shoes to show them there’s nothing.
Later I realized its the smell of the stinking smoke from the burning garbage dump attached into my clothing and my perspiring body. Walking around the dump for years ministering to people you’d surely get used to the stench.
WHY LIGHT A MATCH AFTER USING TOILET
Pardon me but I thought same thing happens when you used the toilet you also don’t smell a thing. Until one day the late Ted Mina, former Hawaii representative visited us at our Manila missions house. When he entered our restroom he puked on the stench of someone who’d just been there.
Jokingly I told him there were 20 staff living in that house and they would not smell the difference after being in the dump whole day. He simply smiled, asked for a match and lighted it. He explained the burnt phosphorous absorbs the stench and it does smell good afterwards. Oh yes, lighting a match, that’s a good practice as courtesy to the next person.
Mang Angel, my barber from Smokey Mt. warned me though to be careful lighting matches on the toilet. He knew an incident when a toilet exploded. Inquiring further, he said some workers were excavating an extinct septic tank.
One guy wanted to inspect first so he removed the old toilet bowl and made the hole large enough for him to go down below with a flashlight. After a while he complained of the stinking smell and demanded a cigarette from the other guy. When he lighted the cigarette, there was a big explosion. So friends, be careful lighting that match… ha ha.
LIGHT UP AND BURN THE SMELL
On a serious note it seems that Christians emit some kind of smell too.. a fragrance, according to 2 Corinthians 2:14-16. That fragrance can be smell of life or death. There’s a smell oozing out of us spiritually and its not the cologne or the perfume we are wearing.
Its the fragrance of Christ I believe that fragrance is supposed to be something that creates a positive atmosphere. It can leave a mark or impression to those around me by the way I speak and act., or the way I behave.
We are meant to be the salt and light of the world by His grace. The One who lives in us empowers us to love people. God is love. He is the Source. So I begin to love those unlovable people. Many people walked around broken, hurting, lost or in some kind of need. I was told that I cannot give something I do not have.
Love is giving… when we begin treating the other person just as Jesus would treat them the result could be amazing. Remember those WWJD bracelets .. “What Would Jesus Do” ? We should decide to be a blessing instead of being a burden. Let’s release those “fragrance” and make someone’s world rock today by speaking the savory Word of life. www.ruddyancheta.com
