âTu mamĂĄ no puede dormir porque estĂĄs afueraâ
Chicago 5/25
Missing home.
Forever a Dodger fan, butIâve always loved the White Sox logo and I have nothing but love for the South Side of Chicago. I went to my first game today with my younger sister and her friends. There was a rain delay but it didnât matter. We ate good and drank good. First of many to come.
Random flicks of Tijuana, Wilmington, Hollywood, MacArthur Park, and DTLA from my last roll of Kodak Portra 800.
Iâll be back home one day.
Where did you end up moving to homie?
Pretty close to Chicago but not quite in the city. Iâm looking at it like a self-imposed rehab of sorts. I just had to get away from my environment back home and where Iâm staying at now is a complete 360 of L.A in every way. Itâs time I take a pause, reset, and heal from all the shit Iâve done. Thatâs the goal anyway.
Iâm leaving L.A with deep void in my heart and in my soul. I know Iâll come back someday, I just donât know when or for how long Iâll be gone.

Lynchian Proximity (circa 1990)
Living in Los Angeles means having varying degrees of proximity to people in the entertainment industry. I dated a costume supervisor for a couple years and then a sitcom writer for a season before being written out of her script. On any given day, you might see an âalso starringâ level actor looking through the towels at Bed Bath and Beyond. I recall a steady run of Seinfeld guest stars passing through an AA meeting I regularly attended. Higher profile names you typically only see based on a shared income bracket, oddball connections, or deliberate stalking.
Or maybe you walk through a door in the dark.
I spent a lot of time in clubs and bars in the 80âs and early 90âs. A favorite spot was The Dresden Room. If youâve seen the movie âSwingersâ, youâve seen the Dresden. In 1990, I was there far too often. And on Saturdays, for a time, so was David Lynch. David Lynch and Isabella Rossellini, actually. Always inhabiting a booth in the room behind the bar. In the same spot for at least a month or better each Saturday. This is when Twin Peaks was on network TV. Magazine-cover famous. Through either courtesy or intimidation, I never saw anyone approach their table. But it was dark after all. Like it is now.
I was a fan early on, seeing Eraserhead several times when it was a midnight movie at a local arthouse theater. When Blue Velvet was released, I opted to see it at a suburban theater rather than in Hollywood. The audience sat in stunned silence as the end credits started to roll. I wasnât having it. I started to slow clap like Charles Foster Kane until a couple of people nervously joined in. Thereâs no shortage of applause for a life well-lived this week and that is as much as any of us can hope to hear when the curtain closes.

Inspiration is a beautiful thing. To have the ability to inspire others is a true gift in life. David, youâve inspired me in ways I cannot even express.
