I was thinking a lot about how John and Fuuta are really similar and how John is like a representation of traits Mikoto wished he had/represses. Someone who stubbornly stands their ground and gives people their just deserts sounds a lot like Fuuta.
Fuuta is not a people pleaser and will speak his mind against what he considers is injustice or mistreatment meanwhile Mikoto will go with the flow of things as long as to blend in with the crowd and not upset the people around him but he wishes so badly to be the opposite and just speak out when he disagrees or wants to but he represses this in order to maintain his reputation and to be liked because he doesnโt think speaking freely is a likeable trait.
He even says this to Fuuta in the interaction they have where he directly scolds Fuuta for this very reason implying that Fuuta wonโt get very far in life and saying his attitude is attention-seeking, meanwhile Fuuta is just calling out the situation he sees as unjust. Which is something Mikoto would never do, but wishes he could, thus John exists.
I think a lot of the reason Mikoto almost seems to look down on Fuuta and not take him seriously is because he canโt accept that part of himself that is so similar to Fuuta, or that he wishes he could be more like Fuuta and stand his ground.
In general I feel like both Mikoto and Fuuta represent (loosely) what the other wants to be. Fuuta wanting to be the carefree, social โeverymanโ that is listened to and taken seriously. Mikoto wants to be able to stand his ground, state his opinions, talk without putting on a front. Both of them have social lives based off of just following crowds, likely no people they are actually close to.
