all was well. [a post bid selfpara.]
So, I just got the feeling I couldn't just "leave" Maia like that-- it felt wrong to just not give her story the ending she deserved, so I wrote this. It includes a few characters. I don't know how many people will read this, but I hope you'll like it.
Warmth. Heat danced upon her skin, her arms bared to the sun shining into her bedroom, warming up the room naturally. Maia Thomas always liked warmth, as she had never been used to cold weather, spending most of her life in Florida, then Mystic Hills-- then Florida again. The first few months after the pack left Mystic Hills, Maia didn't want to think of it-- too many people lost, too many lives ruined. It was a poisonous place as she had learned the hard way, a town that would just break down everything you loved, letting your fragile happiness fall apart like a house of cards. At first, she believed that it was the town-- it had to be. Hunters, the Original vampires, the Alpha Pack-- everything turned upside down in the small town in Texas. That couldn't be a coincidence, this place had to be doomed.
Later, Maia had to admit that it was a place she could call home-- the first place she had called home ever since she ran away from her family, the day after she awoke in the woods for the very first time. She didn't know when it had turned into home, she just could remember waking up one day and deciding to join Derek's pack-- and from that moment on, she had allowed herself to have a family again, allowed herself to call this small town home. Mystic Hills wasn't just a town she lived in for a few months to move on then; It was a place she could go home to. It felt like she belonged there.
But after everything that happened, Maia knew that this town wasn't good for her-- or anyone in her family for that matter. Family-- that didn't just include the pack. Maia included Scott, Effy, Erica. Everyone she loved was family-- and everyone she loved had left town, more or less. At least Maia hoped so; Effy sometimes stopped by in Florida and while Derek liked to roll his eyes at the gifts the blonde vampiress always had with her, Maia was happy to see her stop by. She knew that Effy would come soon-- only weeks until Maia opened her restaurant, the one she had hoped to have someday. She knew that Scott would come-- he had promised to do so and made sure he had the right date thrice. As for Erica, Maia wasn't so sure; She knew that the girl was busy with her architecture studies and honestly, the shewolf didn't want to pull her out of her concentration. Erica deserved the new life she had gotten, far away from the trouble.
Well, Maia knew exactly that the whole pack would be there-- especially since Hayley had agreed to work with her. Sure, she had given Maia a face or two when she first suggested it, but Maia liked to believe that Hayley was actually looking forward to the restaurant as well-- or at least the paycheck. The whole pack had left Mystic Hills after the things had calmed down; Even though the idea seemed to be just a joke between Derek, Mason and Maia, a motivation that someday things would be better, everyone agreed to actually leave the town.
Her eyes opened slowly, her gaze catching the wall, before she looked over to the nightstand, where a small light on her phone silently informed Maia of a new message. Careful, she extended her arm and opened it, her lips curling into a small smile.
Dinner at home tonight? Just the two of us, your dad is out with a friend. Call me when you get up.
-Mom.
Derek had driven her to her old home, months after they came to Florida. She had told only him that she had thought about visiting her mother-- going home and explaining herself. After everything they went through, it seemed wrong to ignore that her family was still waiting for her. Her mother hadn't cried-- she had always been a strong woman. Maia on the other hand had cried so much that she lost her voice for a few hours-- a blessing, as Hayley later called it. They were on good terms now, Maia and her mother.
Deciding to get up finally, the brunette laid the phone back-- she'd call her mother after a shower. Turning around in the bed once more, she smiled as her gaze lingered on the naked back turned towards her-- a spiral-tattoo coloured the skin in the middle of it. Maia waited a few moments, before she leaned over and placed a kiss onto his shoulder, not sticking around to hear his sleepy complaints.
There had been no danger in a long time.
All was well.
