“Wouldn’t work on me anyway,” Greyson replied a little too truthfully, though he didn’t care much. “Trust me, the amount of hostility is about the same, I just can’t be bothered to give a damn right now.”

Penn paused, brows raising and pursed his lips. “Okay, see, I get that, and I understand it, but a friend of mine came in here and I’m trying to find her. Pretty blonde girl? Blue eyes? Named Riley?” Lies, and not told very well, but it was pretty clear from that delivery that he wasn’t sure of what he was saying.
Greyson hesitated at the mention of Riley’s name. He didn’t have any attachment to her, but he didn’t know this kid. He could have been anyone. Then again, so could she. “Doesn’t really strike any bells, sorry,” Greyson lied, shoulders shrugging disinterestedly as he waited for him to leave.

His brows rose and fell a few times. “Good to know.” He could survive a punch easier than a blade, even if he pushed too far–as he could sometimes do. “Yeah, sure, okay…Why don’t I just give you my number and you could hit me up when you got more time to spare?”
“I’m a busy guy. I don’t really have a lot of free time to begin with. I’m not trying to be rude, but you have to know that if you give me a phone number, I’m not ever going to call it. I’m very skilled at the art of ignoring people.”

“Nah, I’d never stab any body. I don’t like weapons. I’d rather jab you square on the jaw with an uppercut, but that’s something else I don’t do. Not anymore, anyway. Still, I have limited time. I don’t like it being wasted, okay?”

“Better make whatever this is worth my wile, then. I don’t like wasting my time. I definitely don’t have time to throw away right now.”

Morgan let out a soft noise when Greyson had scooped her up. It was obvious that she hadn’t been expecting it. Hell, she didn’t think he would even get impatient about her getting prepared. “I thought that was supposed to be a secret, Puppy!” She teased right back, a large smile on her face. “And, for your information, I was getting them so it would be comfortable on the roof. She lightly hit his shoulder, laughing.
Greyson looked appalled for a half a second when Morgan called him a puppy. “First of all, I already scouted the area five times tonight before coming inside, so I know that, as of this very moment, we’re safe from prying ears, a little excessive, but he was paranoid,” secondly, I became one of the youngest Alphas in New York ever. Second only to one -- and you’re going to call me puppy. I’m not allowed to have anything, am I?” He sounded annoyed, but Greyson was in a good mood, so he meant it more in playful sarcasm. It could be difficult at times to determine what he was feeling; expressing emotion correctly was never his strong suit.
He set her down once they were on the rooftop, slamming the door shit with the back of his foot as he moved passed it. It was eerily quiet for another night in the city that never slept, but what was quiet to her, was blasting sirens and loud noises in his. “I never liked living in the city,” Greyson commented absent-mindedly after a drawn out moment of silence while he had taken a second to look at the lit up skyline pinned up against a dark magenta sky. “Even when I was human, I thought it was too loud.”

She groaned at the aspect of camping, but she would suck it up. “Can we at least rent an RV or something? Or even a cot. I do like the idea of seeing the stars though.” She went to grab a blanket for them to lay on, even a few pillows that they had stored away. “Make sure it won’t rain, I don’t want to have to get a new T.V. because on this idea,” she said through laughter.
Greyson rolled his eyes at her, watching her go to grab some blankets before he decided he was too impatient in that very moment, and swept her up into his arms roughly to carry her slow ass. “You don’t fucking need a blanket when I’m a walking heater,” he snickered, quickly moving up the stairs towards the roof door. “I doubt we can afford an RV, but Vivienne’s got a nice tent. The boys will probably beg to be let in, but they know I’ll kick their asses if they try.” He kicked open the door latch at the top of the stairs with his foot, chuckling at her comment about rain. “Stop underestimating me, witch,” he sassed her playfully, ”I would smell it if it were going to rain.”

“I like the idea of being on the roof. Instead of you getting frustrated quickly, we can watch a movie up there and just enjoy the night air. And when you really want to star app you can show me the different stars that are supposed to be in the sky. It’ll be like story time!” She was excited now. Her smile was big and she was just about ready to tug him to get moving.
“Fine. But I’m dragging the entire fucking tv up there with some power extensions. I’m not about that laptop netflix life,” Greyson said, rolling his eyes as he stifled a snicker. At least he was strong, so moving the tv was pretty effortless. “Around the next full moon, maybe we’ll go out of town if I can control the pack outside of chains by then. A few days early, and we can see some actual stars, maybe. That sounds nice.”

Morgan thought about it– she wasn’t exactly normal either. “Well, we could watch movies; play a board game; go out; hell, we can even just take a nap.” She shrugged that the last suggestion. She let Greyson go, wanting him to pick. The brunette would be fine with anything, just so long she could get some kind of smile out of him.
“I wish we could go out, but I don’t think I trust these runts enough to leave them alone without my Beta at least being here to keep an eye on them,” he replied, unsure of what he was supposed to do without Finn. Was he supposed to just find a new Beta? But Finn was the only person in the pack that he trusted with his life. How could he replace that? “I guess we could go up on the roof. You can drink if you want. Pretend like we’re out. I’ll get frustrated because we can’t see the stars. You can pull out your phone and open that star gazing app to try to get me to imagine they’re really there, which won’t work. It’ll be like the real deal.”

Riley nearly scoffed at his exhale, reaching in her bag for her phone, fingers brushing the gun that was tossed her way the first day she agreed to work for her new employers. She shrugged, bringing the phone into her view. “He’s my.. supervisor. My boss doesn’t really have a lot of rules for me, but he does. And they’re not strictly speaking professional rules. Which apparently includes him stalking me.” She scoffed, trying to disable to tracker on her phone. “Believe me, retaliation doesn’t work. Fucking prick tried to..” She trailed off, rolling her eyes as she thought back to the burn in her side. “He’s just a dick. And once I can get this disabled, I will leave you to your.. work. Or whatever it was I interrupted.”
“I could have used the cliff notes version of that, but alright fine, whatever. I won’t try to help, then,” Greyson shrugged, resuming fuming over the paperwork on his desk. It might have been hard to tell from the angle she was at, but he was forging signatures. Some of the kids in his pack were runaways. orphans, or killed their parents on accident. For the runts that still went to high school, he had to partake in some identity thief to keep the government at bay from getting curious. “It’s just paperwork. Do what you want as long as you don’t touch anything or fuck up anything. I could care less.”

“Well, you’re perfect the way you are.” She moved to her tiptoes to kiss his cheek. When he clarified that he shared her thoughts on not wanting to be alone, she smiled more. “How can you lose your mind when you’ve already lost it,” she joked, poking his side playfully. “I’m kidding; what do you want to do?”
“Bullshit,” Greyson replied, though he was unable to keep from smirking when she kissed him on the cheek. “I fully blame you and Vivienne for that,” he remarked sarcastically, having been run up the wall because of the two most prominent girls in his life. When she asked about what he wanted to do, he paused, suddenly unsure. “I don’t know, actually. What do normal people do for fun, again? I forgot.” If only he were kidding. It’d been ages since he’d done something without there being a purpose, or an endgame involved.

“You’re right, but what I meant is that I want you to try. That’s it. I don’t need perfection.” She laughed then, the offer just making her oddly happy. “Greyson, you don’t have to be nice, you know. You can just tell me you don’t want me in your room like usual if you really don’t want me in there.” Morgan knew he liked his space, and even though she didn’t want him to be alone, she also didn’t want him to force himself on this.
“Yeah, well, I do. It’s a problem,” Greyson mumbled, frustrated. He hated setting standards for people; it killed him when he couldn’t meet them. He chewed on his bottom lip, hair on the back of his neck raised at the implication that he wanted her gone. “I don’t -- I’d be more annoyed if you weren’t around, right now. I might lose my fucking mind if I’m alone with my thoughts at the moment.”

“When have I ever undermined you in front of the pack!? I came up here with you because I thought it would just be us!” She got up to follow him, hugging him from behind. “Before you throw me off–” she hoped he didn’t just wrench her off, “–how about we talk later when we’re both calm? We’re missing something right now, but obviously I shouldn’t have started this pissed off.”
“Werewolves, Morgan. Like they can’t hear us,” Greyson retorted, nostrils flaring as he shook his head, beginning to enter his bedroom with the intention of slamming his door on her. He tensed when a pair of arms reached out from behind and hugged him, stopping him in his tracks, but he didn’t pull away from her as much as he probably wished he could have. “We can’t keep pausing our fights when we rarely go back to them, but fine, last time,” he said, sighing as he resigned to the standoff. They were in the doorway of his bedroom. “You staying, or going?”

Out of breath, Riley cursed as she looked for the runaway dead man. Apparently, even when the creatures she brought back got loose in their custody, it was her responsibility to track them down due to her ‘connection’ with them. Which wouldn’t be a problem if it weren’t for the threats she received. Stepping into the gym, she looked around, glancing over her shoulder to look for the big bad mafia men that were always on her tail whenever she was working. Looking back at the obviously annoyed man, she shrugged, biting her tongue to keep from actually having her eyes scooped out with a melon baller. “Crystal clear. Didn’t mean to disturb you, I’m just trying to get away from this dick who doesn’t seem hear the phrase fuck off.” Which was technically true, she contended in her mind, knowing better than to lie to the people in New York, some of them could tell when she was lying and it got her in more trouble than it was worth. “I’ll be out of your hair in no time.”
Greyson starred at her, annoyed that she was there, but he wasn’t an asshole enough to kick her out if she was avoiding someone. If he tried to follow her in, he would have certainly beat the living shit out of him. He was protective of his sister and Morgan, even Scarlett when it came to that sort of thing - or anything, for that matter. He had a thorny personality, but it was in his blood to be the hero - the Knight. “Fine,” he muttered, exhaling exasperatedly to make it clear that he wasn’t happy about it, but would deal. “What’s he following you for? I’m pretty damn good about getting that message across to people if I have to.”
