Samantha didn’t “copy,” she deeply identified with them

(This is all my opinion and definitely not factual)

Most people are quick to label Sam as a “copycat” without even trying to look into her mind. It’s pretty clear to me that she wasn’t just attempting to be “edgy,” she felt a lot of hurt and found something that made her feel bigger than the way people in her life made her feel, (small, unimportant and neglected.) Sam admired how certain killers got revenge on society for the hurt and anger they felt, she felt like she belonged with people like that and so she let her pain shape who she was and felt as though this ending was meant for her. This wasn’t an impulsive decision Sam made, she felt this way for a long time, maybe she was waiting to find hope or a reason not to but never found it.

Samantha also had what I believed was a mask or shield that probably made her feel protected and in control. This shield consisted of her anger which was very real for her but also the beliefs she shared online and in her manifesto about certain groups of people and society in general. These beliefs and ideas were like a strong outer layer that she felt protected her from hurt or even helped hide her vulnerability. I think that this wasn’t her true self, she was hiding it because she knew that sharing her true self meant being out in the open and susceptible to further emotional pain and misunderstanding.
