What program do you use?

I work in blender; a free, open source, and absolutely AMAZING 3d art pipeline that is on par with every other platform I’ve worked with in terms of polygonal modelling and comes with an excellent photonic rendering engine. In the animation and sculpting departments, I think the industry standards have a bit of an edge over it, but both of those things work very well in it and all-in-all it’s a very competitive package at $0.00. The interface is intimidating at first, but that’s true of almost any 3d modelling package. 

It also has a built-in video sequence editor and compositor and has the ffmpeg library built in which makes it BASICALLY a one-program film production suite.

Here’s one of the first blender-related things I’d ever seen. It’s from 2006. A little weird, and the work is dated, but it’s still very cool and the blender institute has come a long way.

And the cool thing is that this film was made by the developers of the software, and they use their experiences as artists to guide the development of the software. The Blender Institute went on to make several more titles, like Sintel, Caminandes, and Cosmos Laundromat, all of which are in different styles and are tremendous improvements over what you see there.

(Gonna give a content warning for suicide on Cosmos Laundromat if you choose to watch it. I think it’s the most beautiful film to date visually but that could be very unwelcome for many people.)

If you’re interested in 3d art, I absolutely recommend picking it up, pulling up some tutorials, and giving it a shot. They’re currently working on a real-time rendering engine on-par with the photonic one I mentioned earlier which MAY be indicative of a revamping of the built-in game engine. Oh yeah. Did I forget to mention that bit? It’s got one. Physics, logic, python, pretty cool. I’m not so good with that part.

I don't know if it is art related, but I really enjoyyour 3d animations. However, the website that you host for them is unavailable. Not sure if it is just me but I would like to view them. Is there other platforms that you posts those models?

Apparently my old host quietly closed down and transferred everything to a new host *except* my domain name.

I’m trying to get it transferred but I’m running into walls.

In the meantime, I’ve registered the domain widget3dmodeling.com (American spelling of modelling, which just looks wrong to me!) and that one works, so you can just delete one L from the url and it should work fine.

Looks like something changed about how the index page works, so it doesn’t autogenerate the directory for browsing anymore, but I can still access pages on the site. I’ll have to make an index page myself, I guess.

For how long is the emergency/normal commissions are open?

I’m not taking emergency commissions right now because my work situation has improved somewhat, and I’ve been kept very busy as a result, and so I’ve been falling behind on the commissions I have already taken on.

My normal rate is $10/hr (cheap for a 3d artist, but furry commissions usually are underpriced and I’m trying really hard to be remotely affordable) for a job that usually takes about 20 hours. If that doesn’t scare you off, by all means, shoot me a message about what you’re looking for and I’ll let you know about how much time I expect it to take me.
