Smart + Logic = the solution your business is looking for
"At the seashore, between the land of atoms and the sea of bits, we are now facing the challenge of reconciling our dual citizenship in the physical and digital worlds."
-Hiroshi Ishii (MIT Media Lab)
It’s time to stop playing ‘telephone’ and start using technology the way it’s meant to be used!
Employees can lose valuable company time searching for needed information in their current knowledge management systems. There must be an easier way to extract important information and have it easily accessible within an organization. Enter software company “Smartlogic”*. Founded in 2006, it’s main goal of “findability” within the software allows individuals to accurately search and receive the information they are seeking. They describe themselves as a “content intelligence company” and define content intelligence as the ability to understand and leverage the value in your content in order to profit from it.
So, “How does it work?” you ask?
The software is called “Semaphore” and it organizes content by taxonomy, ontology management and rulebase/natural language
it uses semantics, text analytics & visualization to perform:
- Ontology and taxonomy management
- Auto-classification of unstructured data
- Text analysis (including entity, fact and sentiment extraction)
- Metadata management
- Content visualization
it automatically generates metadata that represents each classification decision
it’s tightly integrated with content management systems, business intelligence systems and enterprise search engines
it derives metadata that will help turn Big Data into smart data
it powers better, more relevant search
it gives you control of your content to reach your business goals
How can it apply it to your business?

Findability requires definition, distinction, difference. In physical environments, size, shape, color and location set objects apart. In the digital realm, we rely heavily on words. Words as labels. Words as links. Keywords.¹ We live in a digital age where we need everything at our literally at our fingertips. Semaphore's modules will boost your company's knowledge sharing with ease and effectiveness.
And here’s the best part: Semaphore integrates with many existing systems and can be customized to work with enterprise solutions. Semaphore enhances SharePoint, Marklogic, Google Search Appliance, LucidWorks, Solr, OpenText and more.
There’s already a huge list of big companies using the software: Unicef, Bank of America, LexisNexis, BNP Paribas, CBS, NASA, Audi, Target, AstraZeneca, Johnson&Johnson, GE, U.S. Army, Ford Foundation, Merck, Sony, HP, Disney, Microsoft, JP Morgan Chase & Co, Honeywell, US AID, and many more.
Just look at this list of their partners (AKA Semaphore professionals): Google, Advanced Document Science, CGI, Documentar, EMID, eTouch, InfoMentum, Knowledge Focus, Link Development, LucidWorks, MarkLogic, Metataxis, Microsoft, Open Text, and TopQuadrant, to name a few.
The company has won awards and certificates including Google’s ‘Best Product Award’, Frost & Sullivan’s “European Content Intelligence Technology Innovation Award”, KM World’s “Trend-Setting Product Award”, and most recently KM World’s “100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management Award” in 2012 just to name a few.
I’d definitely recommend visiting SmartLogic's well organized website! The only drawback (as of right now to the whole website) is that you actually have to request downloads of papers they offer. I guess that makes sense- perhaps they, themselves, want to keep information and data on who gets what and how interested you really are in the product. But other than that the product itself seems like the go to software you would want in your company. Extracting intelligent knowledge is priceless.
If this quick review isn’t enough to convince you to change-- definitely visit their website (www.smartlogic.com) to read more about Semaphore, get a deeper understanding of the bullet points listed earlier, learn about the company, watch videos/demos, or even sign up for the newsletter.
After all, it IS the 21st century. You’re welcome.
