WIP Wednesday - Whenever
I've been tagged by @celesenova , @eight-of-pentacles, @miraabellee and @lampost-in-winter ageeees ago, but since I've been on a small holiday, I haven't been able to reply. Got back Sunday and let me tell you, it feels like I haven't taken a vacation at all :)))
Back to the usual though, so thank you so much for the tag and sorry to be so late with it.
So first up, I'm going to show you some commission sketches I have in the works, that need to be completed soon.
Tarron the vamp for @xmalikethx. What an amazing character to paint. I have always loved vampires and this is just eye candy for me.
2. Senka and Brena for @amoaliquis. Tragic "what if's" to pull at some heartstrings. Her characters are so compelling, I'm actually low key obsessed with her Hanbren. <3
3. Noir piece for @wingedblack with one of her Lavs and Solas and Cullen. This trio is hot anytime. But her story is so much more than a romantic triangle. A very moody piece that I can't wait to render in full. Will be greyscale with maybe some slight color accents.
As far as personal stuff goes, I was in the mood for some Varric. I don't always rant about him, but throughout the Dragon Age franchise, he's probably my fave (right up there with Solas). So here he is having a WELL DESERVED happy time with Hawke.
I'll remain in the Dragon Age sphere and also share this Cullen reaction to being interrupted when trying to kiss Inky, because that thing was hilarious.

i can't believe i forgot to post this. a month or so ago i commissioned @ruxandralache to paint my main da worldstate's three most important kids, in Skyhold before they've fully grown into their plot relevance. from left to right we have Maisie Hawke, Kieran, and Davhalla Surana (future Rook). in the foreground is Thistle, the Hawke family mabari, and in the background is Fennas (aka Barkspawn), who is helping Davhalla supervise the younger kids.
i loved seeing this piece come together so much and i have so many emotions about the kids befriending each other and having a chance to play together before the world gets messy.
I so loved painting this! It's not often I get to paint kids, and this has been so refreshing and rewarding to do!
Maisie, Kieran and Davhalla are such amazing characters! Thank you for the opportunity to portray them! ❤️

I'm off this week so I'm just working on so many creative things right now for @dragonagekissweek and Inquisitor Appreciation Week. Plus I'm also helping the organizers of Solavellan Week get things off the ground here officially on Tumblr since they were primarily over on Bluesky - so keep eyes peeled for an announcement on prompts and dates any day now! All of this to say - that I feel like I haven't been caught up on the community here for a bit so what's everyone else's working on? As always - no pressure and no time limits!

I have some questions I'm curious about from fellow Solavellan lovers all about your Lavellan, Solas and Rook. Answer all or one, up to you!
What does your Lavellan understand about Solas that makes forgiveness possible without excusing what he’s done?
Is there something your Lavellan fundamentally misunderstands about Solas, and that Solas fundamentally misunderstands about your Lavellan? What finally allows them to understand each other more clearly and how does that understanding come?
What is the dynamic between your Lavellan and your Rook?
If your Rook comes to know Solas primarily as an adversary, while your Lavellan’s experience is coloured by their love and history together, where do their interpretations of him overlap - and where do they differ?
Aaaah, so sorry, answering this sooo late. So I'll answer 1 and 2, because I haven't played Veilguard yet (my laptop cannot take it, unfortunately) and though I have watched some playthroughs, I don't think I have a good mental image yet of what Rook/Solas and Lavellan's relationships would look like. They are not very well defined in my head right now.
What does your Lavellan understand about Solas that makes forgiveness possible without excusing what he’s done?
I've actually often thought about this, and I'd have to say that she understands that Solas is not motivated by cruelty. That sounds simple, but for Rel it's an enormous distinction. She sees that every terrible thing he does comes from the same place that once made him fight slavery, free spirits, and challenge tyrants. I guess we could say that she forgives him because she understands the nuances of his fall and to her, Solas is trapped. Trapped inside a promise he made to himself thousands of years ago. And it's hard for him to see that fact, and the trap he constructed for himself. I don't exactly reckon is much like a forgive and forget, but rather she understands that is not all that he is.
2. Is there something your Lavellan fundamentally misunderstands about Solas, and that Solas fundamentally misunderstands about your Lavellan? What finally allows them to understand each other more clearly and how does that understanding come?
He mistakes her patience for acceptance. She gives others room to arrive at their truth themselves, even if that means that people do make wrong choices sometimes. She will just not violate anyone's agency and capacity to arrive at a conclusion by inserting herself or her thoughts on a certain matter, and manipulate situations. She believes sometimes people need to make mistakes in order to grow and learn from those mistakes.
As for Rel, she misunderstands his very nature of Wisdom. She believes it's lying dormant, under all those shells and faces he's constructed, whereas Solas I think might think Wisdom is long gone. His past actions speak of nothing that sounds like Wisdom, so maybe he does believe his nature is so corrupted that he is trying to return to his essence...but failing.
What allows them to understand each other more clearly is I think...failure. Rel cannot stop Solas and Solas cannot convince Rel. The wall breaches in those moments of failure when their self-constructed images slip away, and there's nothing but fear. Fear of failure, fear of losing...of just being oneself and accepted for it.
