โฅ TO COPE WITH the ( righteous ) teenage angst that had been building inside his mind for years , chibin ( then bearing the name his parents had given him , kim garam ) began looking for an outlet . while most kids would play video games or sports , he found no fulfillment in those activities -- partly because he had no friends , partly because his family lacked the funds to finance them .
โฅ he did live a fine life . though he often duly found himself wishing ill upon his classmates , who treated him as inferior , chibin was content , for the most part , with his life -- until he reached the age of 15 and found himself almost forced to find work in order for his family to survive after being evicted from their cheap(er) apartment . then came the burnout and the dropout and then the relocalization to the countryside . and then came the radicalization .
โฅ yet chibin doesn't loathe the latter . for the first time in his life , he managed to find people who seemed to understand his frustration . most of them were just like him , just like his parents and the sister chibin once had ; DISAPPOINTMENTS . but they seemed to manage just fine . they encouraged chibin to seek artistic outlets , in hopes of steering him away from trouble with the authorities , thinking that chibin's minute stature would endanger him more than it had them .
โฅ so chibin began writing . the words that came to him were incisive , violent , the pinnacle of what one would expect from an edgy fifteen year old boy . and soon , he found himself singing ( screaming ?? ) those words , accompanied by a few friends of his . he had known that anarchist punk had fallen out of fashion in the rest of the world , and that it had never been lucrative to begin with in korea . but , between underpaid shifts at the convenience store and petty thefts , chibin figured a portion of his life could be spent focusing on something other than profit .
โฅ until fate once again showed its ugly face , taking away chibin's job and chibin's father's health in a single week . chibin was at a loss ; he was 18 , hadn't graduated high school , his ears and nose were pierced and he had already gotten a few stick - and - pokes . nobody would ever hire him for anything above minimum wage . they needed the money NOW , and loans were out of the question .
โฅ that's when chibin had to give up the last drop of dignity he'd managed to treasure . he showed up at spotlight entertainment , surrounded by framed posters of the manufactured public figures his classmates had loved , blinded by the neon lights overhead ... and he auditioned . his stamina , strengthened by his time in the band , as well as a natural knack for movements , made it possible for chibin to debut rather quickly .
โฅ his future paycheques would indefinitely be slashed 3:7 , with his parents receiving the bigger portion . with a new name & fake birth date on a fabricated ID ( courtesy of an old friend ) , chibin struggles to make peace with the person he has become ; someone kim garam would have despised .
