directorofbalance:
Before Magnus had knocked on her door, Lucretia found herself staring up at her portrait, lost in thought for the thousandth time that week about the events of the day of Story and Song. She thought long and hard about what she’d done those 12 long years. What she would have changed, how she could have done better, if she could have done better at all–
She also stared at the smiling faces of the family she’d broken. It was hard to even look Taako’s painted face in the eyes… but Magnus at the door jolted her from her thoughts and she quickly turned in her chair, trying to put on a smile quickly before Magnus saw.
“Oh– Magnus. I… suppose you could say that, yes…” Lucretia paused for a minute, trying to banish her thoughts away from clouding her mind. She looked up at him. “I’d actually love to go to lunch. Did you have a plan in mind or…?”
When she agreed Magnus’ shoulders visibly relaxed and his smile grew a little wider. Maybe it was because he wasn’t a particularly clever man, but he was convinced things could go back to-well, not normal, exactly, but something better. Nothing’ was ever going to be the same as it had been, they’d all seen too much, done too much. With work though, he thought they could at least be something like they used to be.
“I uh, I actually made a picnic. It’s no where near as good as Taako’s cooking but I thought maybe we could go eat it on the observation deck?”
I saw 7 birds
I forgot about this awhile ago but since im not over the balance arc at all i figure i should finish it up for inktober

abracafck:
@rvshedin liked for a starter.
“Hey, fuck-ass!!!” His voice booms through the wooden house, probably alerting half the bird population in Ravensroost, which has to be fucking enormous considering its geography. “Do you still like your pancakes burnt to a fuckin’ crisp, or have you gotten some tastebuds since you hung up your red robe??”
With a dramatic gasp Magnus covers the ears of whichever dogs are closest to him and shoots Taako an affronted look. “Hey! No swearing in front of my fucking dogs Taako c;mon, they need to learn better than that.” Shaking his head slightly, though there is a definite smile on his lips, he takes his hands off their ears and takes to rubbing their bellies instead, “Besides, I like my pan cakes how they’re meant to be eaten. Whats the point if they don’t crunch.”
abracafck:
The rough shape of a mongoose makes Taako regret looking, but he finds that he cannot take his eyes away. He swears he can feel the knife whittling away at his emotional barriers, and it’s hell, because Magnus will be gone soon, maybe not of his own choosing, maybe he’ll be old and gray and wrinkly ( please, Istus, let that be how it happens ), but it will happen, and it will be before Taako has even realized so much time has passed. At least Merle will stick around for longer, statistically, but in some way it fucking sucks that the cycles have ended. Sure, it felt endless and depressing and it was as if someone just hit ‘ reset ‘ on their lives every year, and that they had nothing to show for that year, but at least they had each other.
Every moment his barriers are lowered is another moment that will come back to haunt him in the future. No thanks! Taako’s good in here.
Stubbornly clinging onto whatever hope he has of not caring ( it’s slim to none, but it’s not the first time he’s lied to himself; he’s actually getting pretty good at it ), he shrugs, as though Magnus’ words are just words. The bracelet still swirls around in Taako’s hand. “You’re really into nature, huh?” he notes, as though they haven’t known each other for a century. “Guess we could do that, as long as Merle doesn’t get gross about it, because if he does? Taako’s out.” He flat-out ignores the earlier question, because, sure, it’s weird, but please do show him an instance of Tres Horny Boys doing anything in an orthodox way.
The comment about Merle startles a genuine barking laugh from Magnus’ lips and he shakes his head fondly. “Oh man, remember the vines in Goldcliff? I still wake up screaming about that sometimes.” There’s nothing, and he means nothing, more deeply unsettling than hearing your friend dirty talk some plants. In all his one hundred plus years of life he doesn’t think he can think of a single experience that quite matched up to that one. He wouldn’t change it thought, not in another hundred years. It may have been weird and gross, but that was Merle, and Magnus loved him so much it made his chest ache a little.
Even though he’s not laughing anymore a smile stays settled on his lips as he starts working on the fine details of the mongoose. Maybe the future is going to be different and a little emptier without Merle and Taako around all the time, but that doesn’t mean it has to be bad. They have their stones of farspeach, he can get a couple of dogs, the IPRE crew can meet up whenever they need too...it can work. It will work, he just needs to convince Taako of that.
“Okay I promise I’ll make Merle be on his best behaviour, but you have to come visit. I’d miss you too much if you didn’t and besides, once we have it all rebuilt Ravensroost is amazing. I’ve been thinking, laying out some designs, and I think with some help I might be able to get it even better than it was before....before, uh...before-?” he trails off, the somehow both familiar and alien feeling of static making his mind itch. There’s something there that he just can’t get his hand on, and to be honest he doesn’t know if he wants to. He forces some cheer back into his voice. “Well y’know, make it better than it was in-in the past.”
@centurykilled
Dying is weird. Well, not the dying itself so much, that’s usually just kind of painful and honestly a little scary. The coming back part though, now that’s weird. Maybe it wouldn’t be as bad if he didn’t keep coming back with the same damn black eye. He pokes it slightly and hisses through his teeth. Yup, still as painful as the first 7 times. How many times can his eye bruise before it just gives up on being an eye? It’s stupid, but it’s also a genuine worry. Maybe he’ll ask Lucretia about it-she at least won’t laugh at him. The whole not ageing thing is weird too. It’s been what, 26 years now and he still sees the same 18 year old face staring back at him in the mirror.
These are the things he’s thinking about while he makes himself a sandwich and ignores the dull throb of his new old black eye. Technically he can’t be hungry when he’s dead, but he’s still going to use it as an excuse to stock up on carbs, even if Taako will quite possibly literally kill him again for snacking before dinner. At the sound of footfalls behind him he spins round guiltily, but a smile breaks out across his features when he sees Lup. Technically you can’t miss people when you’re dead either, but technically has never stopped Magnus in the past. He holds the cheese out in front of him and grins. “Hey Lup, do you think my jokes are too...cheesy?”
I hope Lucretia enjoyed the beach year as much as everyone else
i’m thinkin abt how young magnus was in the stolen century n just,,,like on the one hand imagine being like 19??20 for 100 years like god that’s a lot all on it’s own but also like he was so young? Him and Lucretia and like I know shit was fucked up for everyone else too but also imagine being like 19, only barely an adult, and seeing ur entire world be fucking destroyed by the hunger. imagine knowing at 19 that ur one of only 7 survivors from ur entire plane of existence like,,,god.
do you uuuuh ever think abt the fact that magnus was canonly passively suicidal and struggling w/ suicidal ideation throughout the entire campaign bc um i sure as hell do
