“Friday, yeah. It’s a date.” It wasn’t just the change in her relationship with Barry that was on her mind, just the thought of going on a date with anyone was a lot to process. She hadn’t even thought about dating since she lost Eddie. But now, with Barry, it just felt right. Like things were falling into place somehow. “That was too cheesy, wasn’t it? Can’t say you didn’t know what you were getting yourself into. This is gonna be the cheesiest date of your life, Barry Allen, I hope you’re ready.”

Barry just grinned at her, shrugging. “I like cheesy,” he said, laughing. “Any date with you would be amazing, so.” He grinned at her again. “See, I like cheesy. But seriously, you could take me anywhere and we could do anything, and I’d be happy to be with you.”

“Tough guy talk? I’m no tough guy.” He gestured at the jacket. “You think I’d want to be a tough guy when I’m dressed like that? Honestly, I’m offended.” He gestured vaguely. “Besides, I don’t even want to be mean to you! I love heroes. Everything is always so boring without them.”

Barry snorted. “Right, that’s true. There’s nothing tough about murdering a defenseless person. That’s just pathetic.” He gave another dry snort. “I’m glad we amuse you.”

Barry: Yeah, you could help. I think we would be, too.

Barry: Oh, uh, also, Iris and I are going on a date this weekend.

“Okay, yeah.” She spoke quietly, and a smile radiated from her. “So, a date.” Iris repeated, the whole thing suddenly felt a lot more real now, opposed to a couple of minutes ago, when it was only just a thought. Now it was a real thing, a plan, a date, with Barry. “Yeah, that sounds nice. I’ll think of something for us to do.” She noted, still donning that same bright smile. “When?”

Barry grinned back at her, the broad smile seemingly etched on his face. He couldn’t believe this was actually happening. He’d loved Iris for so long, but never really believed he’s have a chance with her. “I know you will,” he said, smiling at her again. “Oh, uh, this weekend? How about Friday?”

“Yeah, generally. I don’t work for any company, I’m kind of—self-employed, I guess. People just tend to find me.” He chuckled softly. “People always say that sort of things about themselves, but I doubt you only have one talent.”

“Oh, that’s cool. I can’t really do that with my line of work, a roving CSI tech is a little creepy.” He thought about it for a second. “I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue?”

“You know, undressing someone without their permission counts as harrassment. Battery, harrassment, and that’s not even thinking about that oh-so-fashionable red suit! From where I’m standing, you’re the one breaking the law, Speedy boy!” He laughed, tilting his head back. He wasn’t concerned with anything the man was doing—no, it was all in good fun! And besides, there were plenty of ways for Jonny to get back at him later. If he was even worth the trouble.

Barry rolled his eyes. Villains were so predictable and boring. The usual meaningless threats, and the stupid nicknames. “Speedy boy? Really? Is that the best you got? You criminals have gotten even crappier with your tough guy talk since the ban.”

“Only because I do not know you and your in my company and premises. So that makes it my business. I assume you are the intern?”

“Okay, whatever you say. Uh, no, I work for the Star City police department. Apparently one of your employees got mugged on their way out of the building. I don’t usually do this sort of thing, but my bosses asked me to help out.”

“No. But if you don’t buy ‘random drinks for random people at random bars,’ then it’d be unexpected for you to do it now.” Her expression shifted, as though she’d suddenly had a thought. “But if men everywhere didn’t buy random drinks for random people at random bars… bartenders might be working far less then, too.”

Barry dipped his head to acknowledge the point. “I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority,” he said. “I don’t even drink that much.” Obviously he couldn’t really get drunk, and he frankly didn’t like the taste of most things. “So I think I’m a general outlier in the bar scene, anyway.”

Iris instinctively linked her hands with Barry’s when he reached out, and gave it a tight squeeze. A dozen things raced through Iris’ mind, but she landed on the last time they had this conversation, the only thing that got in the way when Barry initially confessed his feelings to Iris, was the timing. At the time Iris was too head over heels for Eddie to give any of it any real thought. Things were different now, and without the timing be off, she couldn’t think of a reason not to explore it. Especially after meeting Bart, and learning that the two of them would have kids together someday. Surely that had to be a sign, one that nobody in their right mind could ignore. “So, would you go on a date with me, Barry Allen?” A gracious smile took over her features as soon as the words left her lips. 

The feel of Iris’s warm hand in his was familiar, but it always made his heart race -- and now was no exception. In fact, his heart was beating faster than ever, knowing that today was different than ever. The last time they’d talked about this, it hadn’t exactly gone over well. A broad smile took over his face at Iris’s question. “Yeah, of course,” he said, his cheeks still a little warm. “Wherever you want. I know you asked me, so maybe it should be the other way around, but I want it to be my treat.”

After a long day of intense concentration and very little movement, Diana was planning to walk the scenic route home so she could relax her mind and stretch her legs. Lingering outside of the museum after hours wasn’t included in her plan, but as she was leaving, she spotted that ice cream truck she’d been hearing so much about lately and stopped for dessert. She was a third of the way finished with her ice cream cone when she noticed someone starting up the steps to the museum.

“It’s closed,” she called after them. “If you’re going to the museum, we’ve closed for the night. I’m sorry.”

Barry looked over at the woman, shaking his head. “No, don’t worry, I know,” he said. “A friend of mine works here, I’m supposed to walk them home. It’s not really safe to walk by yourself at night around here.”
