An illustration for a project I'm collaborating on called SOV: The True Independents. Here's some info about it courtesy of Tony Masiello:
"As many of you know this doc has been in the making for almost 3 years. I have amassed interviews with over 50 SOV alumni with more planned in the future. I have also been busy on other projects such as the SOV Horror Anthology Hi-8, The Return to the Quadead Zone doc as well as Visual FX work on many no-budget horror films. Needless to say I have had my plate pretty full.
When I set out to make this movie my goal was to tell the most comprehensive history on the subject of SOV films and to give credit to all the pioneers who helped inspire me to get into the industry myself. Needless to say that is allot of information to cover in a 2 hour film and I realize that I will not be able to go as in depth as originally planned with the film.
That is why I have decided to start a web series that will feature various interviews with SOV alums, many speaking for the first time on camera about there work! The interviews will range in length anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour and will be focused on sharing detailed information on the making of the genre films we all know and love.
By doing this I will accomplish my goal to tell the most comprehensive story I can on the subject and better yet it will be available for free to the fans. Making this movie is not about money to me but the love for the genre. There have been many VHS movies as of late that have used funding campaigns to make there movies but I am proud to say this movie has been produced completely DIY just like the films it covers. So by doing the web series this will give me some more time to get the funds I need to shoot the last few interviews I need.
The interviews will be added atleast once a month and if possible maybe even twice a month depending on my schedule. All the videos will be housed at my website sovhorror.com. Also Matt Hill will be writing in depth reviews on the movies we cover, Johnny Dickie will be doing video reviews and Ryan Fortney will be creating some awesome original SOV artwork for each interview. The plan is to make this site a one stop source for SOV info.
The first episode will be premiering on October 31st and will be an interview with Sledgehammer star Douglas Matley (the killer). This is the first time Doug has done an on camera interview and I think you will all really enjoy what he has to say about the film. See the attached video for a brief preview.
Also I want to note that the film is still in production and will be an ongoing project. Once I have the funds to finish shooting I will but in the meantime for all the eager fans I have been hearing from hopefully this will quench your SOV thirst.
Also I am still looking for people who would like to contribute to the site so if you are interested and have an idea of a way you can help please contact me.
