@ryangoodwin-deactivated2015-blog
Ryan was born and raised in California, and he shied away from the cold as one would keep their distance from mountain lions. Cold weather joined large crowds, loud noises, and mass celebrations on his personal list of pet peeves, and the Times Square New Year’s Eve ball drop happened to embody each and every one of those things. It didn’t surprise anyone that Ryan preferred staying in on New Year’s Eve, and 2014 wasn’t going to be any different – he went as far as denying a work opportunity to covering a local New Years celebration for CNN – but then Sylvia was brought into the equation. They didn’t rely on the traditional forms of showing affection, for the lack of knowing how to, so making exceptions was his way of expressing his fondness for her.
Sylvia had wedged herself in the far corner of the balcony, leaning dangerously over the railing to watch over the New Year festivities. He secured her to the balcony with an arm wrapped around her waist – a rare display of physical affection that neither of them minded – and let the rabid New Year enthusiasts bore him into looking over his shoulder to catch a glimpse at Anderson Cooper broadcasting live a little ways away from where their hotel was located. It wasn’t the ball drop she was looking at, but the people below and honestly… she didn't need to dig into her life savings to pay for a hotel right in the middle of Times Square to do that, but that was none of his business.
As the ball finally began to descend, he grabbed Sylvia’s arm with a gloved hand and gently tugged her away from the balcony. “You’ll see better from where we’re going,” was all he told her as he grabbed a scarf off of the coat hook, wrapped it around her neck, and then shuffled her out of their room. By the time the elevator had made it to ground floor, New York City was seconds away from transitioning into the new year; even from the core of the hotel, he could hear the crowds chanting. The metal doors opened and a flock of people stuffed themselves into the elevator as Ryan pulled Sylvia closer to the lobby.
“Hurry up, Darcy,” he whispered urgently to her, even though he wouldn’t have been audible if he shouted at the top of his lungs. Sylvia didn’t like being told what to do or where to go and she resisted him as much as possible – going as far as to claim her heels would break if she moved any faster than a snails pace – and the last thing he needed that year was for her to be difficult with him. Ryan dug his knuckles into the small of her back to annoy her and when she jumped, about to whirl around and sock him in the jaw, he grabbed her by the waist and guided her to the exit from behind. “Let’s go, go, go.”
"3… 2… 1…"
They spilled out onto the street where Sylvia had the optimum view of the masses and an obstructed view of the ball drop.
“HAPPY NEW YEAR!”
While everybody was watching the ball drop, Sylvia was watching everybody, and Ryan was watching Sylvia. The moment the crowd exploded in cheers, signifying the end of 2014 and the beginning of a new year, her eyes lit up with an indescribable passion for something only she could comprehend. Their blue hue reflected the colors of the lights illuminating Times Square and they flickered over to him, her cherry red lips parted as though she were about to include him in whatever she was excited about; for a moment, he actually thought she was going to tell him what was going on in that complex mind of hers. Of course, that didn’t happen. Instead, she realized that he had caught her in a rare moment of complete bliss – or as she saw it, vulnerability. Sylvia grabbed his forearm to complain about something in an effort to distract him, but for once he was one step ahead of her.
Cameras broadcasting CNN’s New Year’s special hovered near them, eager for media coverage on an impromptu appearance from one of their reporters, and neither he or Sylvia couldn't care less as they shared a New Year's kiss.
Happy Birthday, Ryan! || Dec 28
You deserve a break. Here are two round-trip tickets from LAX to Bali with a reservation at the Ayana Resort and Spa. All of the dates are changeable, and you can bring someone along with you. Don’t get sea water in your eyes.
Your Friend, Theodore

The best Christmas present I could ever receive!
I’ve missed you.
I've missed you too. Fair warning though, I have to go to New York on the 28th, but I'll spend Christmas with you.
Does anyone have a good hangover cure?
The tears are already streaming down my face, CHESHIRE. HOW ARE YOU EVEN HERE????
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
I fought for a flight and here I am.
Christmas miracle? I think so.
Last year today...
I am celebrating for the first time. Why do you like the holidays?
I can tell you why I don't like the holidays. Growing up, I've never had a good run in with any holiday.
How are you liking it?
Does anyone have a good hangover cure?
Ryan. Goodwin. You are not a real person. I am freaking out. Where is your hotel. I am meeting you there. OH MY GOD. YOU ARE GENUINELY THE BEST FRIEND EVER I AM SOBBING.
Please don't cry. I'll text you the details in a sec. Expect some coffee and...
Merry Christmas.
Christmas, 2014 | Ryan Goodwin
Ryan, I saw this on cyber Monday and had it shipped to you for Christmas. Please don’t do this with it on air:
Happy Holidays, Theodore Anderson
Last year today...
Do you have anything planned?
Nothing, which is perfect. I'm not one for celebrations. How about you?
Does anyone have a good hangover cure?
CHESH SAVE ME I FEEL LIKE I AM DEAD. Ugh. I wish you were here.
Wait…. WAIT. DID YOU JUST SAY WOULD GET ME SOMETHING??!!?!?!?!? ARE YOU HERE!?!?!?!?!
Do you know how hard it is to catch a flight the day before Christmas? Very. But I pulled some strings so here I am.

Are you an android? Did you cross through space and time and have lost the natural ability to feel tired and exhausted?
Are you a masochist then?
Okay, let’s get this straight. He’s taking care of my kitten because I basically suck at taking care of pets. Once I get a hang of it, I’ll take it back.. I think.. Let’s hope he doesn’t get too attached to Tiggie… Okay, I see your point now.
Don't blow my cover.
It's not really a sex thing... well... Keep that out of the tabloids.
There we go. If it means anything to you, I think he's a good kid and I'm not just saying that because he loves what I do.
Last year today...
Is that good or bad?
It's good that I don't have to do that anymore and instead I have a break – which is really all that I take out of the holidays.
Last year today...
I was covering a story on Hanukkah for Channel 8 because "the viewers would appreciate the next best thing to an actual Jewish newscaster". It's safe to say I've had a better year.
Does anyone have a good hangover cure?
I feel like I am halfway to death.
I'll get you something.

Fin: Ok... I love you, Chesh.
Ryan: I love you too.
Ryan: Good night.

Fin: I... just sat down. Breath is coming back.
Fin: I don't know.
Fin: 10 for what I did to him.
Fin: 10 because I feel like I let him down.
Fin: 10 because I feel alone.
Ryan: Okay.
Ryan: Get some sleep. You'll feel better when you wake up.
Ryan: I guarantee it.

Fin: It's okay.. I had... am having a bit of a panic attack, but I'm... starting to breathe again. She's out with Sparrow. I told them to go to dinner without me.. feeling a bit sick. I, gosh, I don't know. I just.. oh god.
Ryan: Breathe in for five seconds, hold for two, then exhale through your mouth, and repeat that until you've calmed down a little bit. Are you sitting down? Please sit down, just in case you feel a bit faint.
Ryan: How bad do you feel?
Ryan: On a scale of 1-10.
