All prepared! (August 2nd, 2013)
Keturah’s Reflection: Yesterday was full of laughter and fun, despite the seriousness of what we were discussing! Yesterday, we had the opportunity and honor of being taught about emergency preparedness by Deputy Superintendent of the Boston EMS (Emergency Medical Service), Felicia Robinson and by Boston Police Department Detective Lanita Cullinane. These two women were such an inspirational and commanding presence in the room, we were very grateful to meet them. Not only were we in the presence of these two great women, but many others, as we took part in the activities with a large group of delightful senior women! We also discussed emergency preparedness, and the one thing that stuck out most to us was the importance of CPR! While the time allotted wasn't quite long enough for us to be CPR certified, Deputy Superintendent Robinson DID show us the basics! After all, in her words, "any CPR is better than no CPR"! We're prepared for emergencies now! Yay! Go R.Y.L!
A.M - Not only was I grateful to have been apart of such an inspirational activity but i'm proud to have had a chance to prove how ready I am for any type of emergency . These beautiful women of color stood in front of us (Felicia Robinson and Lanita Cullinane ) they made us feel welcomed and good within our own skin. They led me to believe we can all be heroes and when the time comes , we can use what we know for the good . The feeling I got inside seeing all the seniors laughing and enjoying themselves made me feel like amazing and apart of change . You don't usually see young kids and seniors interacting so much and actually enjoying each others presences , so this was truly a point of reference for so many young lives . I know now when we have any natural disaster to not only think of myself but others around me . food , water , rope , books , radio .. I’M PREPARED !
