❝ I don’t feel like I’ve done anything to be proud of. Was just doing what I had to because literally NOBODY ELSE COULD. ❞ Not to mention it had been Shiro’s last wish so as much as he’d been reluctant to have the spot filled as some symbolic gesture of moving on he knew he had to do it.

Shiro had believed in him… but at the same time he wasn’t sure how true that was anymore. He heard the words, hear the tone, felt Shiro’s presence next to him but it had all started to feel so OFF after the initial rush of having the man back faded.

❝ I’m sure everyone’s glad you’re back. Even if you can’t use the Black Lion I can tell they-… I know they missed your leadership. ❞

“You could’ve said no.” Shiro offers, “You could’ve stayed with Red, but you didn’t. Even without me here to guide you, you made a smart decision. I’m proud of you for that.” He smiles, placing his robotic hand on Keith’s shoulder, smiling softly at him.

There it was again, something different in Keith’s wording, in his tone. Something was bothering him, but Shiro couldn’t bring himself to ask, couldn’t bring the words to his mouth.

They think that I’ve failed their mission, that I’ve--” Kuron clenched his teeth, fingers curled at his sides, “SWITCHED sides.” He shook his head, avoiding the fact that he HAD switched sides. That he wasn’t going to betray them, but it was TOO LATE for that now, there was no going back now that they all knew the TRUTH. That he wasn’t actually Shiro, that he wasn’t actually their leader. He was something else, some falsity created by the Galra in order to infiltrate Team Voltron.

“We have to get moving, QUICKLY.” All he knew how to do was run and fight only when he was caught. He didn’t want to face the Galra, NOT yet. He wasn’t ready for the WRECKAGE they would leave in their wake, could barely imagine what would happen if Voltron LOST.
