Byler has been getting so much hate recently, and I’ve had conversations with milkvans/people who think byler won’t be canon, even without mentioning byler and having solid points on why I think milkvan is going to break up, they use the same excuses. “They wouldn’t break up milkvan! They’ve built it up for four seasons” or “it’s not realistic to have another gay couple” or the infamous “mike wouldn’t leave el for her brother” and a few honorable mentions, “el is so pretty he wouldn’t leave her” , “mike wouldn’t leave el for that gay ship”, “maybe she didn’t talk to him because her best friend is in a coma and she’s upset?” and “so it’s okay for el to be heartbroken but not will? Your poor little gay boy” and I could disprove each one of these with.. about a sentence. Save this for future arguments if you have to.
1. “They wouldn’t break up milkvan! They’ve built it up for four seasons” you’re wrong. They spent two seasons building them up, two seasons breaking them down. Hence the constant arguments and conflict. He even describes it as a fight you can’t come back from, come on people, Think a little.
2. “it’s not realistic to have another gay couple” we are talking about a show with monsters and underground worlds here, why are you speaking about realism. And we already have two canon queer characters, why can’t they add another?
3. “mike wouldn’t leave el for her brother” first of all, will isn’t el’s brother, will is his best friend. He knew will way before he even knew who el even was. the “You said yes.” Partwhere he was breaking down because he thought he lost his best friend due to some underground monster freak. He knows how will breathes, he looked for will for days, and days, even when he was found “dead”, when everyone doubted him being alive he kept searching for him because that’s his BEST FRIEND. Not el’s brother. HIS BEST FRIEND.
4. “mike wouldn’t leave el for that gay ship” / “el is so pretty he wouldn’t leave her” who says el’s not doing the leaving. Are we going to pretend she wasn’t the happiest she ever was when she dumped mike and was with max? And yes el is gorgeous but that boy is gay. So.
5. “maybe she didn’t talk to him because her best friend is in a coma and she’s upset?” If that’s the case then WHYYY did they highlight the fact she didn’t talk to mike, hm? They didn’t need to, they could have just cut that part out, or not write it at all. But they didn’t, Because they’re fucking hinting a breakup, but there audience is fucking dumb.
6. “so it’s okay for el to be heartbroken but not will? Your poor little gay boy” I say this again, EL WAS THE HAPPIEST SHE EVER WAS WHEN SHE FUCKING DUMPED MIKE. That was the best day of her life. She was carefree, stress free, happy, and with her best friend. That’s the day she learned that, and I quote, “life isn’t just about stupid boys”.
Also, mike has had just as much queercoding as will, and we were write about will being queer. Who says we aren’t right about mike? The bullies only ever threw homophobic insults at MIKE, not Lucas or dustin, MIKE. They also did that to will, and you know what will is? GAY.
