Swedish learning resources
I’m self-studying Swedish online but Duolingo sometimes is not the best of the teachers, so I resorted to going on the web to find good websites* for Swedish lessons. What I found is not much, but it’s good.
Feel free to add new links if you want. Also, if you are, say, Spanish and have found a Swedish grammar website taught in your language, please add the link below to start a new section and clarify that you are adding links to resources taught in your language.
*All of these websites are in English and Swedish.
Folkets Lexikon: nice Swedish-English / English-Swedish dictionary with clear pronunciations of the words. It also provides example sentences. Also, if you have an Android, you can download Folkets Lexicon on your phone from the Play Store for free. It’s good because it’s an offline dictionary and that means that you can use even when you don’t have any connection.
Ord.se: Swedish-English / English-Swedish dictionary with lots of example sentences.
Lexin: Swedish dictionary with pronunciation and example sentences, useful because it provides noun inflexions as well.
Swedish | Wikibooks: the Swedish wikibook, with simple grammar lessons, situations and conversations, provides vocabulary and pronunciation.
Swedish Grammar: an accurate page about Swedish grammar.
Björn Engdahl’s Swedish course: nice website with 7 Swedish lessons.
Swedish Tutorials Index: lots of concise and easy lessons with pronunciation.
Learn Swedish | learn101.org: very useful website, full of example sentences and lessons with pronunciation.
Swedish Language blog: a blog dedicated to the Swedish language. You can find all sorts of posts on here, I mean, literally. Here’s a post about going to the bathroom in Sweden. You gotta love it.
Introduction to Swedish: a language course brought to you by Stockholm School of Economics divided into 9 chapters. Definitely one of the best resources online.
GoSwedish | Youtube: this girl uploads Swedish video lessons in English and it’s great for pronunciation, vocabulary and sentences.
Svenska och arbetsliv för invandrare: basic course with audio. Good for getting to know some basic but essential stuff about pronunciation.
Learn Swedish with SwedishPod101.com | Youtube: simple video lessons on Youtube for beginners. Very useful for pronunciation and vocabulary.
Useful PDFs: Grammar and other books
78 Swedish books: it has two really great grammar books taught in English.
A Brief Swedish Grammar | Archive.org: a scanned Swedish grammar book.. Only thing is it’s from 1878. It’s still good though!
Metro: Swedish Metro online.
Dagen.se: very nice Swedish newspaper. There’s also a section called “Dagen TV” with videos and interviews.
SvenskaTidningar.se: huge list of online Swedish newspapers.
SVT Play: Swedish television with subtitles! Dramas and reports. Sometimes the subtitles aren’t exact transcription of what they’re saying, but it’s still something.
Sweflix: Like Netflix, but in Swedish!
Swefilmer: Similar to Sweflix, but a free account is needed.
Sveriges Radio: Swedish radio with Swedish articles and audio! But the texts aren’t a transcription.
