Someone posted this machine learning generated image on reddit that was the TOS Enterprise in front of red white and blue fireworks, with the caption "Happy 250th birthday, America! We'll see you for your 500th!"

Which is really stupid obviously. Like, in Star Trek canon, the USA does not even make it to 300 years. Star Trek does carry the baggage of the Federation being written like Space America, but I don't think many Federation citizens are going to line up to celebrate a brutal oppressive imperialist regime which has committed and been complicit in multiple genocides, in which human beings were enslaved and treated as property. (I do not merely refer to the 1860s and earlier. State-sanctioned slavery continues to this very day in prisons.)

And reddit being reddit, I thought for sure the comments section would just be going along with the OP, but my faith in humanity has been restored a little bit because almost every comment is like "what? no."

One day, one day, there will come a time that July 4th is just another date on the calendar. If the world is as just as the one depicted in Star Trek, 2276 July 4th will come and go with no one noticing except historians (and perhaps the odd time travelling fugitive or thawed out cryonically preserved millionaire).
