Witch Hat Atelier, chapter 8 (2017)
Guess we're using the European "anything on a round bun is a burger" definition.
I actually skipped this when I first read Witch Hat Atelier precisely because it calls it a "sandwich"… but then someone submitted the equivalent scene in the anime and I figured I should give it further consideration. So I actually ran it by some friends for their thoughts.
The consensus was that "patty + melted cheese + leafy greens on a round bun" is fundamentally a burger, even if the in-universe terminology is different. It might just be that the translator, or even the original author, thought "burger" didn't sound appropriate for a fantasy world (especially not one that invariably refers to hours as "clock marks").
do you ever see someone get so far into fanon of their favorite character that they forget the core conceit of that character
apparently the current run of Nancy (the newspaper comic. yeah i know) is making people mad because it made Aunt Fritzi bisexual, which is extremely frustrating for me, a person who has been mad about the current run of Nancy because it isn't very good
basically i think the artist has trouble with comedic timing and it’s pretty neatly illustrated with the comparison of this Bushmiller strip and the modern one that's haltingly paying tribute to it
instead of “this person made good art so they can’t be a bad person” try looking at it like this: “this person made art so they can’t be a good person”

i think Susie being posed as this symbol of hope and kindness by the text of the game in a way people have compared to characters like Superman is cool and touching, but i feel like it sort of is making people forget that at the end of the day she’s still a regular teenager with a troubled past and anger issues… and i don’t think it would be “bad writing” for her to react poorly to the reveal of any secrets Kris might be keeping from her, especially when she straight up said that she hates when people “don’t tell you the whole deal.” i would go as far as to say that i find the idea of Susie being super understanding and forgiving of everything to be not only out of character but uhhhh pretty boring lol
i don't know how people can say things like this without realizing that what they're describing is bad writing
in retrospect "the consensus people have of Susie is that she would come to the morally correct and the most satisfying conclusion almost instantly in what would normally be a shoe in for some earth shattering drama" ended up being the perfect explanation for why people have reacted the way they have to Chapter 5
very interesting writing choice to have Susie be like “oh… i don’t know Kris :/ i don’t think i feel comfortable talking to Toriel today, because of Her Actions” and then take approximately 10 seconds half-heartedly resisting talking to Sans before spending roughly half the festival being chummy with him
it's not BAD writing, i would argue it's very realistic to have a teenager lack the emotional intelligence to be like "hey wait he was also there," i'm just saying It's Funny Is All

vanilla Suselle is nice and sweet and fun, but Weird Route Suselle is going to go fucking crazy
the Chapter 5 Weird Route stuff was insane of course but what i'm really obsessed with is 1) the genuinely very sweet Krusie stuff that allowed a bit of the real Kris to show and 2) Susie giving us extremely unsettling crumbs of how her day with Noelle went
hey, those are some regular humans!
