today, my father and i went on a walk. the skies were clear when we set out, and the air was a bit stuffy. i was annoyed at first; i wanted to out alone, and just wallow in myself. he insisted on coming with, part of me thinks it’s compensation for what has happened these last few months — the silence afterward, the careful way he speaks to me now that never existed before. he confuses me — with his constant talks about space and the worlds above. i enjoy it, yes, but i enjoy space in metaphors and layered prose, and he enjoys space in numbers and probabilities. we’ve always been like this — beyond the galaxies. he just kept talking about mars, the radioactivity, and dust particles. the skies above may have been clear at the moment, but his orbit was one i’d never learned to follow. i looked up into the sky and felt nothing.
