The first person on her list was Riannaโthe final core member of the Pretty Mob. Rianna handled the weapons. Need a switchblade? She had a drawer full of them. Need something with a little more kick? She could make a call before you even finished asking. If things went left, Rianna was always the first person Giselle wanted in her corner.
Giselle pressed her contact and waited, letting out a slow exhale as the phone rang.
"Hey, Rianna, baby," she greeted. "I need you to do me a favor."
"I need you to get everybody together and trail behind me. I got a situation going on, and I need backup in case some shit goes left. I'll drop the pin in a second."
A drawer slammed shut on the other end of the line.
"Let me stock the trunk."
The line went dead before Giselle could say another word. She slipped her phone into her back pocket like it was nothing.
Hollis, on the other hand, stood there in disbelief.
"You made one phone call and now everybody's on the move."
"They know if I'm calling, it's serious."
"No arguing? No 'give me five minutes'? Nobody asking a thousand questions?"
A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
"My girls don't move like that."
Hollis let out a quiet laugh, shaking his head.
"I've never seen a group that locked in before."
"They're family," Giselle said matter-of-factly. "When one of us gets into something, all of us get into it."
For the first time, Hollis understood why everyone spoke about the Pretty Mob with so much respect.
They weren't just friends. They were a unit.
A few minutes later, the rumble of an engine echoed through the parking lot.
Rianna pulled up in her black muscle car, the music rattling the windows before the engine finally cut off.
She was already halfway out the window, perched on the door with a pistol resting comfortably in her hand like it belonged there.
"What's good?" she called with a grin.
Giselle hopped off the hood of her Mustang and met her halfway, wrapping her arms around Rianna before pulling Lana and Ariana into the hug too.
Rianna pulled back first, looking Giselle over from head to toe.
"Now..." she said, tucking the pistol into the waistband of her jeans. "Who we gotta beat the brakes off of?"
"Uh-uh, fuck all that," Ariana interrupted, peeking out from the group hug.
Her eyes landed on Hollis.
"...Who the hell is the white boy?"
She looked him up and down with an expression that made it clear she wasn't impressed.
Hollis, on the other hand, simply offered a polite wave.
He slowly lowered his hand, clearing his throat.
"I'll...wait until somebody introduces me."
"Hollis, bring your ass over here," Giselle called out.
She waved him over with her hand, the same way someone would call over a dog. Hollis looked amused but followed anyway.
"Everybody, this is Hollis," she introduced. "I met him last night, and he ain't that bad."
"He just talks too damn much."
Hollis placed a hand over his chest, pretending to be offended.
"Wow. That's how you're introducing me?"
"I do not talk that much."
"You're doing it right now."
"Anyways," Rianna interrupted, already over their back-and-forth. "What exactly is going down, and what happened?"
Giselle looked between her girls, trying to figure out how to explain the situation without saying too much.
She didn't want them to know she lost something that important. Not because she didn't trust them, but because she knew how serious it was.
"I had something I was supposed to deliver," she finally admitted. "And when I went back to my car, it was gone."
Ariana's expression shifted immediately.
"Gone as in you misplaced it, or gone as in somebody took it?"
Giselle stayed quiet for a moment.
The silence that followed felt heavier than before.
Rianna crossed her arms, studying Giselle's face.
"And you think somebody was watching you?"
"I don't know," Giselle admitted. "That's the problem."
Hollis stood back, watching the conversation unfold.
This wasn't just a favor anymore. These girls weren't here because Giselle asked them to tag along. They were here because when one of them had a problem, everyone showed up.
"Alright," Ariana said, stepping forward. "Start from the beginning."
Giselle took a deep breath.
For the first time that night, she let them see how worried she actually was.
"Harvey had me doing a delivery," Giselle explained. "I don't even know how long the package has been missing, but I know for sure it's gone."
She led the group toward her Mustang and popped open the trunk.
The empty space stared back at them.
The duffle bag that was supposed to be there was nowhere to be found.
Ariana, Rianna, and Lana exchanged looks.
"She damn near lost her mind trying to figure out what happened," Hollis chimed in.
"Thanks for making me sound crazy."
"I'm just saying," he defended. "You were pacing around the parking lot like you were about to tear the complex down."
Because they all knew this wasn't just about a missing bag.
Lana's voice cut through the silence.
"That's your life right there."
She stared at the empty trunk, shaking her head as the reality of the situation settled in.
"If we don't figure out who took this money, all of us are dead."
The words sat heavy between them.
Giselle looked away, already knowing Lana wasn't exaggerating.
This wasn't just about a missing bag anymore.
It was about everything they built, everything they protected, and everything that could come crashing down if Harvey found out.
"So what do we do now?" Hollis asked, concern written all over his face.
Nobody answered at first.
Then Rianna stepped forward.
She gave the empty trunk one last look before turning away and heading toward her vehicle. The others followed behind her without hesitation. Doors slammed shut one by one. Engines roared through the parking lot, cutting through the silence that had settled over them. And just like that, the Pretty Mob was on the move.
Hollis sat tightly buckled in the passenger seat as they sped down the street, the vehicles following behind each other like a warning.
The bright pink heel sign stood above them, almost mocking them as they pulled into the lot.
Giselle stared at the building for a moment, taking in every detail before stepping out of the car. Her grip tightened around her weapon, the anger and fear mixing together as she prepared herself for what came next. Rianna, Lana, and Ariana arrived moments later, faces covered and determination written all over them.
The Pretty Mob moved as one.
They entered through the back, making their way inside with no hesitation. The locker room erupted into panic as the dancers turned around, shocked by the sudden intrusion.
"Everybody empty those lockers. Now," Giselle demanded, her voice cutting through the room. "I'm not leaving until I find out what happened."
One of the dancers scoffed.
"I don't have to do anything. I'm not scared of you."
The attitude lasted only a second.
Lana stepped forward, her patience already gone.
"Say something else smart."
For the first time that night, everyone understood Giselle wasn't playing.
Ariana opened the lockers one by one, throwing their belongings out as she searched for any sign of the money. Clothes, bags, and personal items scattered across the floor as she dug through everything, hoping she would find something that would lead them in the right direction.
Every locker came up empty, leaving nothing but frustration sitting on her shoulders. She slammed the last locker shut and took a moment to collect herself before stepping away. If the money wasn't here, then someone either moved it or knew exactly where it went.
She guided herself back toward the lobby, removing her mask and slipping her weapon into her top before walking into the main area. Her expression changed immediately, replacing the anger with a calmness that made it easier to blend in.
Her eyes scanned the room until they landed on the office.
Exactly where she needed to be.
Ariana walked toward the door and knocked softly, keeping her posture relaxed.
"Excuse me, I need to talk to the house father. I wanna talk about my promotion."
The door swung open almost immediately.
The man looked her over before stepping aside, allowing her inside.
Ariana cut herself off before finishing the sentence. The sweet act she walked in with disappeared as quickly as it came, her hand moving toward her weapon and pulling it out before pointing it directly at him.
"Open the safe, nigga." she demanded. "You can go about your day after I see what's in there."
The man stared at her, shocked by the sudden change in energy. His eyebrows raised as he leaned back in his chair, almost amused by the fact that someone he believed he controlled was standing in front of him making demands.
"How the fuck are you gonna rob me when I own your ass along with Harvey?"
Ariana's expression didn't change. She had heard threats before, and a title didn't scare her.
"That's where you're wrong," she responded. "You don't own me."
The room grew quiet as the two stared each other down. He was waiting for her to fold, waiting for her to remember who had power in the room.
She had a reason for being there, and she wasn't leaving without answers.
Before Ariana could react, his anger took over.
He charged forward, catching her off guard and forcing her backward. The two collided against the wall, the sudden impact causing her grip to falter as the pistol went off, the sound echoing through the building and sending panic through the club.
For a second, everything went still.
The girls heard the shot from across the building, and Giselle's heart immediately dropped.
Lana and Rianna rushed toward the office with Giselle right behind them, the sound of their footsteps growing louder with every second.
Inside, Ariana fought to push him away, her anger matching his.
"You really thought I was the one to play with?"
The door swung open before he could answer.
Giselle stood there, her expression completely changed.
The playful, confident version of her was gone.
All that remained was the girl who protected her own.
"Get your hands off her."
Hollis ran inside at the sound of the gunshot, his heart racing as he followed the rush of people flooding toward the office. The chaos outside was enough to tell him something had gone wrong, but seeing the panic on everyone's faces made him move faster.
He pushed through the doors just in time to see the struggle unfolding.
Without thinking, Hollis rushed forward and grabbed onto the man, attempting to pull him away from Ariana.
The man barely moved at first, his attention still locked onto Ariana as if everyone else in the room didn't matter. Hollis tightened his grip and pulled harder, forcing him to finally turn away.
Ariana took the opportunity to catch her breath and regain her footing, her eyes immediately scanning the room.
"Giselle," she called out, her voice sharp.
Giselle and the others were already moving.
The second they saw Ariana was free, the entire energy of the room shifted.
Nobody was there to negotiate anymore.
They were there because one of their own had been touched.
As they reached the parking lot, Ariana pulled out the man's master key and held it between her fingers, the small piece of metal shining underneath the parking lot lights. The girls looked at her with confusion, trying to understand how she managed to walk away from that office with more than just a few answers.
A small smirk appeared across Ariana's face as she looked back at the building.
"Guess who wasn't as careful as he thought he was."
Giselle glanced over at her, still trying to process everything that had happened inside.
Ariana shrugged, slipping the key into her pocket.
"He was too busy trying to prove a point."
Rianna let out a breath, looking between the group and the building behind them. They came there searching for a reason, a clue, anything that could point them in the direction of the missing money. Now they had something they could work with.
"So what does that mean?" Lana questioned.
Ariana looked back at the group, her expression turning serious.
"It means we stop guessing."
The girls exchanged glances, each of them understanding what came next.
They weren't leaving empty-handed.
"We still got to check The Cherry Kiss," Giselle reminded them. "That trick Trisha definitely had a hand in this."
The name alone shifted the energy between them. The girls exchanged looks, already knowing the kind of person Giselle was talking about. Trisha wasn't just another rival; she was someone who had always found a way to get under their skin and make herself a problem.
"I can't stand that hoe," Lana added, rolling her eyes as she leaned against the car.
Ariana let out a small laugh, shaking her head.
Giselle ignored the comments, her mind already moving ahead. She didn't have time to focus on old drama or personal feelings. Right now, she needed answers, and The Cherry Kiss was the next place on their list.
The timing was too perfect.
The missing money. The unlocked trunk. The way everything disappeared without a trace.
Rianna opened the car door and looked back at the group.
"Then we stop wasting time."
The girls climbed back into their vehicles, engines roaring back to life as they prepared for their next stop.
The Cherry Kiss was waiting.
The sun began to set as they rode through the city and into the desert, the bright colors of the sky slowly fading into deeper shades of orange and pink. The noise of the streets disappeared behind them, replaced by the open road and the sound of the wind rushing past the vehicles.
Giselle had finally opened the top of her Mustang, allowing the breeze to flow through her hair as she leaned back in her seat. For the first time all day, she wasn't thinking about Harvey, the missing money, or the constant pressure sitting on her shoulders.
Hollis couldn't stop looking over at her.
There was something different about Giselle when she wasn't trying to prove herself to everyone around her. Behind the confidence, the sharp words, and the attitude was someone he was still trying to understand.
He watched her for a moment before finally speaking.
"I never got a chance to ask..."
He paused, searching for the right words.
"But what made you choose this path?"
The question caught her off guard.
Giselle's smile slowly faded as she stared out at the passing desert, the wind still brushing against her face.
But she wasn't sure which one she was ready to give him.
"It's a long story that isn't ready to be told yet," Giselle trailed off.
Her fingers brushed against the edge of the steering wheel as she watched the desert stretch endlessly in front of her. The silence between them felt different now. Not uncomfortable, just heavy with things she had spent years trying to bury.
"I was struggling really bad and had no sense of what to do for myself. I was ready to let myself die because I had no support and nothing to chase after."
Her voice softened as the words finally started spilling out.
"My dreams and hopes were unrealistic. I was practically just somebody who didn't want to be or do shit."
She let out a quiet laugh, but there was no humor behind it.
"I didn't see a future for myself. I didn't think I was going anywhere."
Hollis hummed quietly, taking in every word without interrupting her.
For once, Giselle wasn't the girl with the perfect comeback or the person who always knew what to do next. She was just someone admitting how lost she had been.
"That must be the reason why you feel like you have to prove yourself," he said softly.
Giselle glanced over at him.
"You want to do better and be better."
He looked out at the road ahead, his expression becoming distant as his own memories came back.
"I used to feel that way too."
She stayed quiet, letting him continue.
"When I was homeless for a couple of years, I felt like I had nothing left. I was strung out, hopeless, and just trying to make it through the day."
The confession surprised her.
Hollis had always seemed so carefree. Always joking, always smiling, always finding a way to make the situation lighter.
She never imagined there was something underneath it.
"I didn't think I was gonna make it out of that place," he admitted. "I thought that was just who I was gonna be forever."
The two sat in silence, the road carrying them forward while both of them sat with the parts of themselves they usually kept hidden.
Maybe that was why they understood each other.
They both knew what it felt like to be at the bottom.
The only difference was how they chose to climb back up.
