CDAN Podcast Episode 28 - Selena Gomez (Part 1)

Ok, take two on the Enty podcast episode on Selena Gomez. This will make the third time I have listened to this episode and itâs not been any easier to hear.
Enty says this a last minute, rushed decision to talk about Selena bc of the situation she is in
Enty wants to take us through the history of where she started âgoing down hillâ aka drug use
Justin Bieber has a lot to do with her patterns of addiction
When they were together, sheâd get worse. When they were broken up, sheâd get better
It took the GP a while to see this pattern
People donât want to believe that Selena is/was/has been on drugs
The GP chooses to believe the Lupus narrative
But one time Selena said she had Leukemia
âReally? Youâre gonna get your diseases confused?â
âBut you know who needs kindney transplants? People who use a lot of cocaine. Young people who use a lot of cocaine. They need kidney transplants.â
We go back in time to when there was a big shift in Selena
This shift took place when Selena was filimg the movie Spring Breakers (2011-2012)
Enty refers to this time period as âSelenaâs college yearsâ
If she had been a regular American teen, Selena would have been college age (19ish) at the time Spring Breakers was being filmed
Enty lists the âparty peopleâ who were cast in/worked on the film
Ashley Benson âshe can party up a stormâ
Vanessa Hudgens âparty up a stormâ
James Franco âMr. Perv Himselfâ
Harmony Korine directed the film
His wife, Rachel Korine was in the film too
Enty says that before that film, Selena lived a fairly sheltered life when it came to Hollywood life
âSure, she was around some drugs, she was around a lot of drinking, but until then, she was kinda sheltered. And there were so many themes in that movie she had not explored in her real life. She was just like a fish out of water in that thing.â
She went from Disney to a Harmony Korine movie, âcome on, really? Especially one like Spring Breakers?! Thatâs a tough transition.â
Compares Disney Selena to Disney Vanessa Hudgens
âShe (Vanessa) has a little bit more street smarts to her, she had a little bit more of an edge. She had seen somethings, sheâd done some things. But that movie, for Selena, I feel like was the beginning of where we are now.â
Being on the set of that movie was her downfall
There was also the back and forth with Justin, but her shift really started with Spring Breakers

The downfall begins with âJames Franco and his pervy self and partying and saying âyou need to do itâ and the peer presure that she felt
Enty recalls a blind he wrote about Selena and the filimg of Spring Breakers. The blind is about Selena starting to experiment sexually during this time period. No other details or explaination is given, except that âmaybe Miley Cyrus was involved?â
And you had never seen or heard of Selena doing these kind of things before
And just being around the Spring Breakers people and that script, that director and his wife, that movie and experience and time period is where âSelena got off the rails and she has never been able to right herself. at all.â
Enty jumps to right after her kidney transplant
She was partying a few weeks after with booze and drugs
Justin did nothing to help. He was a big hindrance
âThe guy treated her like crap! Like CRAP! When he sings âmy mama donât like youâŠâ HE TREATED HER LIKE CRAP!â
Enty has zero chill over this. He is heated about Justinâs treatment of Selena
Selena needed help and Justin didnât help her
Compares this to Demi and Wilmer. Demi needed Wilmerâs help and she didnât get it
Justin is always looking out for himself
He would cheat on Selena âin a second. he didnât care. bc he knew that she would come back, but you know, each one of those times took a little bit of a dig at her. and a little bit more, and a little bit more, and when you would see those people in the tabloids that he was cheating with, and Selena would see them, what is she supposed to do? whatâs she supposed to think? she got more and more insecure. and the way she dealt with those insecurities was by partying.â
Selena would alienate her friends with the partying
âHer closest friend for a long, long time, you know, Miss Taylor Swift, you know she doesnât want to be around that kind of thing. So what does that do? It pushed Selena away. There are certain people who donât want that in their life. They donât want it associated with their image. And thatâs what Selena did.â
Enty reads a blind item about Selena trying to kill herself (this is what allegedly happened most recently with the ârehabâ story about low white blood cell count)
Enty says he does not think Selena knows how to deal or cope, but that her mom does a really good job of trying to help her daughter
Her mom understands that Justin is not good for Selena, not good for her recovery
Justin does not care about his own recovery bc he does not think he has a problem
When you are with somebody who doesnt think that they have a problem, and the other person is trying to stay sober, and Justinâs like, âhell no, I wanna party! youâre not gonna party with me? then get out of my life.â
Basically Justin is giving her an ultimatum: either you party with me, or get out, and Iâm gonna go party with this other person who knows how to partyâ and then he hooks up with that other person, so what does Selena do? she gives in to his demands and parties and does drugs so he wonât find a replacement for her. again.
Selena made her life about Justin, instead of making her life about HERSELF and she has done this for a long time (8 years)
