Hello again, I come with another rant + headcanons. Here it comes: Shouta Aizawa is the more emotionally open one in the EraserMic duo (whether platonic or romantic, I'm going with romantic).
Why do I think so? Aside from the fact that Hizashi Yamada never EVER expresses his true opinions or emotions to anyone other than Aizawa himself, we don't see him cry, ever. He is constantly hiding behind the very convenient "jolly guy" mask of Present Mic,
Hizashi did not cry when Oboro died. Which isn't to say that he didn't care about one of his best friends.
His reaction comes off more as shock, denial, and there's an immediate instinct to cover up his true feelings with a pun: "That's alright, we're feeling a bit... rainy today."
We don't see him express his grief outwardly. He just looks tired, if anything. He pushes it all down.
Now, let's turn to Shouta Aizawa. Shouta is often mistaken for being apathetic and downright emotionless, just because he doesn't project his emotions as loudly as his friends do.
But we see him being vulnerable multiple times. We see him express his struggles, we hear him spell it out for the audience, in fact.
We see him cry multiple times. In fact, aside from Midoriya, Aizawa is the biggest crier.
To me personally, (and it is a headcanon, since it wasn't stated in main canon), he reads as autistic.
Hear me out on this: autistic people usually struggle with projecting their emotions or controlling their facial expressions overall (which we see Aizawa do), while feeling deep empathy and caring for people. He is speaking what's on his mind bluntly; he doesn't bother to sugarcoat (which is what autistic people do). He isn't one for physical touch because he only does it with a select few people.
ALL OF THIS WE SEE MULTIPLE TIMES across both Vigilantes AND main MHA. He put his life in danger multiple times to protect his kids (this is his self-destructive tendencies ON TOP of deep empathy and care).
Aizawa cares for Hizashi and Nemuri. I hear some of you scoff and roll your eyes because I ship emic, but it's not that. The fact that Aizawa agreed to commentate on the Sports Festival while injured (and likely in pain) because Yamada asked him to speaks volumes. The fact that Aizawa hangs out with his friends speaks volumes as well.
He can say no, but he doesn't. Because, despite it all, he loves loudly and he cares even louder.
Which is why it's almost heartbreaking to see him painted as an "alpha emotionless CEO who is lazy and hates everyone" because that couldn't be further from the truth. He's a hard worker. The fact that he sleeps everywhere where he can is because he works as a teacher during the day, and as a hero overnight. Sleep happens in between with no loss of 'efficiency'.
