anonymous person, if you really don’t understand why all those tumblr posts with half a million notes telling people who suffer with mental illness to “touch soft things” instead of “seek professional help” are harmful then i’m sorry, you’re part of the problem. 

lots of popular tumblr posts try and depict anxiety and depression as something cute and quirky and half of you will never understand how patronizing that is for the people who deal with depression that isn’t cute. depression isn’t sparkly pictures of xanax pills and touching soft pale colored animals, depression feels more like not showering for two weeks and crying when you make dinner but not one ever talks about that. it isn’t fucking cute. the fact that you’re even attempting to stick up for people who use this platform to romanticize that instead of encouraging these people to get the help they need / deserve is fucking stupid to me.

you know what’s cooler and more helpful than telling someone to watch a “calming” gif when they have a panic attack? linking them to inexpensive and extremely helpful books written by people who dedicated their professional lives to researching this disorder.
