Happy Opera Pride! 🌈🌈🌈 Der Rosenkavalier (Robert Carsen, 2017) Don Carlo (Emilio Sagi, 2016) L'incoronazione di Poppea (Jan Lauwers, 2018) Adelaide di Borgogna (Arnaud Bernard, 2023) Platée (Jetske Mijnssen, 2023) Benamor (Christof Loy, 2026) Alcina (Robert Carsen, 2021) Champion (James Robinson, 2023) Ariodante (Robert Carsen, 2023) Les Pêcheurs de perles (Timothy Nelson, 2015) Der Rosenkavalier (Josef Ernst Köpplinger, 2021) Arabella (Tobias Kratzer, 2021)
+ bonus Les Brigands (Barrie Kosky, 2024):
Got an opera that's making you sad? Don't like how a character is treated? Don't like it ended?
Just Add Figaro!
Name me a single opera that would not be fixed by Figaro showing up armed with his mind, his guitar, and his ability to smash up the dinnerware
For instance: Figaro trotting along to keep up with Orfeo, trying to distract him from looking backward; chatting about nothing and pointing out cool rocks. Eventually, Orfeo can't help himself and turns to look back, and Figaro full-on tackles him.
Who's next?
Andrea Chénier: kicks out the Incroyable, explains to Gérard that the Incroyable's advice is bullshit and he should get a better wingman (him), devises a plan to rescue Chénier and Maddalena from the guillotine together with Bersi and Gérard
Norma: Joins forces with Norma and Adalgisa; RIP Pollione you're going to have a very confusing (and educational!) 24 hours.
Cosi fan Tutte: just add him and Susanna and enjoy the results
Faust: epic frenemies with Mephistopheles. Arranges a happy reunion for Marguerite and Faust, tricks Mephistopheles into giving him the rights to Faust's soul, probably finds a girlfriend for Siebel as well
radamisto - fourth act added for figaro harassing tiridate, with help from tigrane and zenobia.
germanico in germania/arminio in germania - offers to be arminio's representative. negotiates with germanico in arminio's place, in the penultimate scenes, and their back-and-forth ( half of which is completely off-topic ) ends in the roman forces backing out of germania ( good ) but also figaro becoming the emperor of rome ( uhhh ). he is crowned while arminio chases germanico around in the background.
giustino - is amanzio's foil. for every piece of malicious advice amanzio gives arianna and/or anastasio, figaro counters with something totally absurd. also intervenes in the sea monster episode and leaves giustino with leocasta at the creature's mercy. thankfully ( i say, half-begrudgingly ), he's also the one to save both of them, via classic Figaro Bullshit.
rodelinda ( i'm okay with how rodelinda ended, but couldn't pass up on the chance ) - garibaldo is the devil on grimoaldo's shoulder, unulfo is the angel, and figaro is... the angel of the odd, from that one edgar allan poe story? sings an aria that's basically a travel commercial, trying to convince grimoaldo to throw everything away and vacation to the lakes ( lombardy's got plenty, and as its king he can't just let them go to waste ).
Huge fan of when a soprano hits a high note when a pants role touches her

I’m glad no human soul heard the sound I just made reading this

I’m watching a recording of Alcina on YouTube and the most replayed part is during a recit when Alcina gets undressed
Remember when this was a phantom of the opera blog?
Well guess what I’m seeing tonight
