"Ah, geez. I was hoping you wouldn't be around today." It was obvious she was lying - at least to Zero. He was one of the few who could always tell. With a huff she held out the tiny box that contained a bow and arrow shaped ornament inside "I know its useless. Just a decoration. But it still counts as a birthday gift. You can toss it if you want."

If he were to be honest, he was hoping there wouldn't be much in store for social interaction today. But word spread around that it was his birthday today, and he was having to deal with a lot more people coming up to him and giving him best wishes. Zero understood that everyone was trying to show him kindness by giving him birthday wishes, as well as show their teammate support, but he could only take so much.

So he found himself sitting on a pile of rock in front of the sapphire mine, away from any current socialization. At least he was, until a figure showed up. The man was about to kindly shoo them away, until he saw that the figure was his own daughter. With a sigh of relief, Zero allowed his shoulders to lose their tension, giving Épo- Nina, a gentle smile.

" Heh. Sorry to disappoint you, sweetie."

He chuckled at the slight insult, not hurt at all by it. There'd been worse thrown at him. It wasn't anything he couldn't handle. His attention was grabbed as soon as the young woman brought a small box into view, brightly decorated with a ribbon tied around it. He accepted the gift, taking nimble fingers and untying the ribbon, popping open the top so he could look inside. He found what looked like an ornament, or at least a small figurine of a bow and arrow.

Zero glanced over at his daughter, then placed his vision back onto the ornament and took it out of the box, lifting it up so he could get a better look at it. The thief's grin only grew as he stared at it, humming with approval.

" It's not useless, it's wonderful. Perhaps I should look into this becoming a necklace. ...Thank you, Nina. I love it so much."

The killer bow was held out for the other to take. A weapon to better protect himself as well as the rest of the army "Thank you. For your years of service. I could not have asked for a better retainer."

" Unaware, milord? Oh, no. It's one thing I've always remembered."

Despite bitter memories from past birthdays, there had been some wonderful memories as well. Sure, they didn't outnumber negative ones, but the good ones were always worth remembering. It was people like Leo who made them memorable and everything he could ever ask for. Because of him, he wouldn't even be here, celebrating with the others.

Birthdays hadn't meant much to him before, but with each passing year, he knew that his mind had changed greatly, and he came to appreciate them. Zero couldn't help but feel his lips quirk up into a smile as he watched the prince hand over a shiny, brand new bow; the ones that had recently been stocked into the inventory. Apparently, the best and most accurate ones so far. The outlaw accepted the bow from Leo and pulled back on the string, testing it's durability.

" Hm... Sure is strong. I- Thank you, milord... Thank you for this, and everything you've done for me. In my years of servicing you, you've shown me that life is worth living, and I'm proud to be your retainer. Heh..."
