I think Grace is very asexual when it comes to humans but...

He's just very interested in eridian biology- it's natural when it's so different from his own!

And he just wants to study Simon's mutations! Completely normal!!!!

Hear me out. The mutations cause Simon to be able to see in the dark but he doesn’t notice because the Hail Mary tends to keep the lights on and he gets so used to the layout of the sleeping quarters that he just knows how to maneuver around things that are there even with the lights super dim. And when they get to the biodome Simon just assumes that it’s kept dimly lit due the night in case Grace needs to get up to get something. It’s not until Simon is up doing something and Grace wakes up to go find him and he sees Grace bumbling around and Simon gets confused and asks what’s wrong that Grace says that he can’t see a think with how dark it is.

Simon insists that it’s not that dark till he realizes that no actually it is dark. Grace’s eyes have dilated to try and adapt and he fully misses Simon because he didn’t feel his way in that direction.

Grace copying Rocky’s little stomps after awhile, not really noticing he does it and soon after they rescue Simon, Grace stomps his foot at Simon and Simon looks at him completely dumbfounded because “did this grown ass man just stomp his foot at me?? Like a toddler??”

even though he viewed the mutations as a loss of humanity, he never felt more human than in the moments where grace would kindly and softly guide him through expiriments

okay i know this is something i've briefly talked abt before with the characterization of simon, but i HATEEEEE when ppl make him demanding and impatient.

every time i see him demand that grace uses his words or forces him to process quickly through his overthinking and conflicting thoughts, a part of me dies a little.

because you're telling me a man who begged to live, begged to be free, begged to just return back to the place he knew as home, and ultimately had that choice taken from him, would deprive someone else of time to process things on their own terms? or would be impatient and demanding?

especially when you look at everything that grace helped simon with? with taking care of him, feeding him, rescuing him, and ensuring his safety? i think that simon would allow him to work through things however he needed to, and take it with patience and grace (Ha!)

I know! I know! The stars! But I can’t over the idea of Simon seeing ACTUAL sunlight. FEELING the sun on his skin, warm and bright, the kind of feelings that he’s only read about. It’s an instinct inside him that the sunlight is good, that he needs it, but he couldn’t have it until now.

I imagine he likes to sleep outside at first for a while, falling asleep looking at the stars and Grace stays with him because why not? Then he gets to wake up in a gentle light in the morning and watching the sunrise and does it all over again.

modern au bloodymary where they teach at the same middle school in the science department. they bond over their shared love for life on earth and studying it.

simon runs the garden club, and as he helps students with their assigned tasks, he makes sure to educate them on more scientific concepts revolving around plants in an enjoyable and digestible way.

grace visits one day and sees how good simon does with kids, and how much he loves teaching them and helping them with tasks, and something switches in his brain

and suddenly he realizes he's falling for his coworker.
