Humphrey Bogart and wife Lauren Bacall during a 1956 wardrobe test for the to-be film Top Secret Affair. Bogart was set to play General Goodwin, with Bacall cast as his leading lady, but Bogart’s increasing illness demanded his removal from the role. Bacall also withdrew, choosing instead to care for her husband, who passed away the following year. The film would have marked their fifth collaboration together since To Have and Have Not in 1944.
