this is a potential deal breaker. she is never the problem. men are.

hating taylor swift roots in misogyny. not liking her songs is fine, not caring about her is fine, but when people go out of their way to demonstrate their passionate hatred for a successful, young woman such as taylor swift, misogyny is the only answer. men might not even realize they’re being misogynistic; a lot of this is internalized. everyone dates, everyone goes through breakups, NOT everyone has the talent to write down their emotions in such a way that millions of other individuals can relate to the feelings, even though the event was personal. this is what taylor swift does.

see it’s funny; whenever taylor writes about breakup songs or love, that’s “all she does.” yet when she wants to talk about politics and express her opinion, she is told to “stick to what she knows.” she has made numerous donations to March for Our Lives and movements fighting for LGBTQIA rights, she influenced thousands of people to vote in the election, she wrote a letter to her senator encouraging the Equality Act, and even her music reflects her political stances.

so next time you have the urge to say “Taylor swift kinda mid, she keeps writing songs about all her breakups,” think again: do you not like Taylor Swift, or do you hate to see a successful, young, and multi-talented woman?
