All tsukishima knows at this point in time is that he's recently been thinking about yamaguchi. A lot. He doesn't have a name to the feeling yet. Honestly, he probably knows what it is but there's no way he's gonna admit anything.

As soon as tsukishima reads his paper, yamaguchi's face pops up too fast for comfort. And without the option to switch, he goes to fetch him. Its not really meant to be a confession. All it is is him using his best friend.

And thats exactly how yamaguchi takes it. To his knowledge, tsukishima doesnt HAVE a person he likes so ofc the next best thing would be his childhood best friend who understands everything for what it is. Just a white lie to finish the race.
