Trying to get back into drawing by redrawing some of my oldies!

These are from 2010, so a 14 year old Len drew these! Here are some characters from a manga idea I had, I guess?? Flipping throught this old sketchbook, you can definitely see influences from DN Angel, Pandora Hearts and Vocaloid. Later you'll find Kingdom Hearts stuff and baby's first doujinshi redraws oh my ! There's also a character sheet for a girl who feels like a boy, so yanno, the trans was there but didn't have a name yet lol

I embrace queer because I’m almost 40 and still uncertain where my sexuality and gender identity fully reside. Queer is enough. Queer is “I’m one of them and we’re in this together” and that’s alright by me. I don’t have to figure out the rest yet.

I am past 40. I still use 'bi' in most online bios because it's the label I've been clinging to for years, but as they say, it's complicated. I've been feeling it's inaccurate for a while, but I can't quite put my finger on why. Being in a long term monoganous relationship also puts this under a strange perspective: I often feel like I shouldn't stress about who I feel attracted to as a concept, because from a practical point of view it doesn't matter. Except it does, because it's part of who I am as a person. Figuring that out is part of the human experience, specially when you deviate from the so-called "norm".

Then there's gender identity, which is A Whole Another Thing by itself. Often more important and life-changing that your preferences, because who you like is important but... what about who you ARE? I wish I'd understood this much earlier, tbh.

Gender identity is closely related to gender expression; not necessarily, I know, but a big part of feeling comfortable in your own identity is being able to express who you are. And due to a series of things (which mostly could be summed up as "I hate myself" — because I do, hence the tw above) I just don't do that. I limit myself to existing and surviving as best as I can, but I just don't present myself to the world in a way that feels right to me—and that encompasses a lot of things, including the way I express my gender, meaning that more often than not my perceived/assumed gender is not correct at all. I just don't bother doing anything about it, and let everyone assume by default that I'm okay being perceived as a woman — when it's a label that has always felt uncomfortable to me (and believe me, I've tried, but 90% of the time it's like a literal itchy label. I feel like I'm an alien trying to wear a human suit when I force it on myself).

Anyway. Since my circumstances and (lack of) intentional gender expression make me very cishet passing (and because I'm not out to most people IRL), I have an impostor syndrome of sorts and have always avoided defining myself as queer. It would take pressure off myself to just use it as an umbrella term, at least while I don't have the energy to figure other things out. Because maybe I never will. Because I know what I'm NOT, and that is a heterosexual woman.

I saw this little comic a few days ago and it made me think about all this. So I suppose this is the year I try to embrace the queer label, at least in the online spaces I feel comfortable in... It's a start. We'll see about the rest.
