this photo was taken half way through a activity where we asked them to find an object that was red it was so good to see how imaginive they all were
How will your own values influence your decision making and what challenges with present you with in creating effective practice?
one of the practioners we looked at when planning our workshop
me and brit figuring out what else to add in the workshop to make it educational and fun for the young people we will be working with!
How will your context influence your artistic practice!?

reflection
When we were planning our workshop, we wanted to make sure that we added different techniques that would help and encourage the group of young children we were working with. We looked at Helen Nicholson for a lot of techniques like using freeze frames it was a process as not everything worked or made sense for example one of the activities we set out was not explained well enough so when we explaining to the practice group what to do they really didn’t understand and it did have to be explained multiple times and even then there was still some confusion of what to do so after the practice group session we went back and looked it over to see how we could work around the issues or if we should adjust is or just completely changed it. In the end we ended up making a completely different idea that when we went over with different people, they understood straight away which then gave us a lot more confident when we had to do it with our actual workshop with our group of young people from mess up the mess theatre company. The day of the workshop assessment one of the activities had to be taken away as I was injured, and it was a physical activity but in the end that worked out for the best because we would not have had enough time to do it as we had to cut one of the activities as we were going to run over time. I believe that the activities we did with the young people were really good and was fun but still educational we thought it was important that some of the activities we also got involved in as some of them could have been preserved as quite personal, so we thought that if they see us getting involved and taking part as well, they would feel more comfortable to share and get involved and not feel exposed to us. We think those type of activities worked because it gave them a chance to express how they were feeling and allowing us to get to know them better so we all felt comfortable doing the workshop it also allowed us show our theory that drama helps mental health even if it is a little bit that’s why we started and ended the workshop by asking all the young people how they feeling on a scale of one to ten and what colour would there feeling be. I think that if I had the opportunity to go back and change something I would change the main task of the workshop as looking back on it now I think I would of liked to do a task that we could of got to connect more with them help them if they needed just so they didn’t feel like they had to go off and do it all on their own I think it would have been better to be involved in working with them a bit more. Something I feel very confident about that worked well in the workshop with the young people is the task where we asked them to get an object that related to something, we asked them for example we asked them to get an object that made them feel safe. They all really seemed to enjoy this task I think it gave them a way to express them selves and tell us a story about them that they normally would not have been able to. If I had the opportunity to work with the young people of mess up the mess I would definitely take that opportunity they were such a pleasure to work with and so respectful I would this time around doing the workshop make it that we were more involved them in the main task so they feel like they had that help there if needed and not just send them off in to break out rooms I want them to feel like they can come to us and know that we are happy to get involved and help them if they need it.
What consideration will you give to the participants and the agencies you will be working with?
me and brit going through our workshop plan and figuring out how we can make it better
What do you consider to be the role of a facilitator?

the geese theatre company
The applied drama theatre company I have chosen to look at is a company called Geese theatre company. Geese theatre company was founded by Clarke Baim in the UK back in 1987. Since 1987 the theatre company has worked in over 150 custodial institutions and worked with over 25,000 offenders and people who are at risk, they have trained over 20,000 people and have created performances to be performed at criminal justice and social welfare conference events. The geese theatre company is a team of theatre practitioners who create drama based groupwork for the probation service, young offenders and prisons they also offer training through out the UK and abroad.
Geese theatre company mission statement is “Creating stimulating and innovative issue-based theatre and training solutions to facilitate choice, responsibility and change within Criminal Justice and Social Welfare settings”. There mission statement tells me that they want to help young offenders and help them learn something so that when they do get out of prison that they know there is something they can do they are trying to show them that drama is a good way to learn and get your self out of a bad situation into a positive environment. I believe the underlying values of the company is trying to help young people who have made a few bad mistakes in their life but the company wants to help them and show them that they can turn their life around that it doesn’t always have to be bad that they can change there life for the better and doing it through drama show them that there’s something they can work on and learn that there will always be something new learn and teaching them things about the world through drama for them I believe it is not just about putting on plays to make the young offenders feel better it is about teaching them about the world and how they can turn there life around and make a positive effect on the world they show that by their work with masks it shows that they are trying to make the people they work with comfortable and not feel exposed working with masks helps them feel less judged and more expected and that they can be someone else. I believe the company has many strengths in what they are doing but also as most things they do have some weaknesses applied drama is all about helping others through drama and especially working in prisons and young offenders there will be some people that will not even want to consider looking at what the theatre company do which then can make their job harder. I think a lot of young offenders can struggle with the idea of trying to learn drama and might try and retaliate back so there will always be that struggle of trying to get through to the people they are working with. I think I main strength the company has is there work with mask I think it is a brilliant idea as it gives the chance for the people they work with a way to not be themselves and not to feel judged by the decisions they made in life.
