“I love Gatsby.” Caroline confesses with a warm smile. “And that era. It all seems so fanciful - short skirts, short hair, all those pearls…” She laughs softly. “And of course the mischief of an underground party - I mean, I know it wasn’t really all fun and games, but it left a pretty picture.” She leans forward just slightly, resting her weight on the elbow she places on the bar. “Well, I think you’ve come to the right place then. Whole city of opportunity.”
”I’m getting the sense of that.” He leans in as well. “Are you a native to New York?” He knows the answer, but he wants to find out how she got here.
Caroline shakes her head, before pushing the leftover shot to him and then taking her own. She was starting to feel that pleasant buzz in her stomach, relaxing her posture, but she didn’t want to go too far tonight - this guy was handsome, yes, but something about him made her slightly cautious. And of course, she didn’t want to get sloppy. “No, I’m from Virginia. Just moved her not too many months ago.”
”Virginia… not one of those small towns, I’m sure. You look like you belong in the city. Where the lights can properly shine on you.” He playfully moves his hand close to hers on the countertop.
“That’s cute,” She remarks playfully, smiling at him. “You’re a very smooth talker aren’t you?” Caroline asks, but lightly, flattered by his attentions. “But you’d be wrong - I’m a born small town girl. Barely even saw the highway until I was seventeen. I’m afraid the only lights shining on me were those from the football field.”
He laughs. "Don't tell me, you were a cheerleader?" He cocks an eyebrow in her direction.

”I like the initiative, Stefan. But tonight’s games shall have to be paused. Pick a wardrobe. We should get back to the hotel. I have things to prepare.”
He pouts a little, half hungry but he doesn’t argue with Klaus and does what he says, eyeing the frightened store clerk as he does so. It’s not until after their clothes are loaded in the back of the car that Stefan walks back in, feeds on her until she’s weak and compels her to forget they were ever there. Walking back out, he sits in the driver’s seat and glances at Klaus. “What hotel are we staying at?”
”The Palace. I hear it has a lovely Spa & Fitness Center,” he jokes.
He smirks softly and pulls onto the road, driving toward the Palace. “Why did you choose here? I heard it was owned by a bastard and stingy owner.”
"Ah yes... Bart Bass. Man who really knows how to drive a bargain. Lucky for us... he was one of my very good business partners. And now that he is dead there are some loose ends to tie up. It's all very annoying. Hopefully his son would prove to be cooperative."

He pulls his hand back and quirks an eyebrow at her. “You’re a little feisty aren’t you?”
She smirked and tilted her head to the side. “It’s no where near as my bite. Or my fire.”
"I'll have to see it for myself sometime." He grins.

She shook her head and crossed her arms over her chest. “Something tells me your version of fun and mine are two completely different things.”
He smirks. “It’ll become an acquired taste.”
She took a deep breath and finally stood, brushing the dirt off of her backside. “What… Exactly are you going to require of me?” she asked, knowing that she’ll soon regret it.
He brushes the stray stands of grass off of himself and straightens his jacket. “Nothing for now… other than be my eyes and ears. I haven’t been in the city in a while and I will be on occasion need some information. Information that you will provide.”
She hated this feeling of being vulnerable, but there was nothing she could do. She was his slave in a sense, and not in the kinky way she enjoyed on a rare occasion. Her eyebrows knitted together in confusion. “What kind of information?”
”Information on the supernaturals in this city. It’s been awhile and I still have a few old haunts to visit… but I’m sure there’s plenty of new players in the game.”
She took a deep breath and couldn’t believe what she was going to do. “I think my ex-boyfriend was turned.”
He raises his eyebrow at her. “Baby vampires running around in the city?” He rolls his eyes. “That should be fun.”
“He owns more than half the city. Well, his father did, but he passed so by extension, he does.” She shrugged and thought for a minute. “And he also owns a speakeasy…”
”At least he has some taste… perhaps I shall make a visit. Very good. See?” He pats her on the head almost endearingly. “You’re useful already.”
She swatted at his hand, and pursed her lips. “I might be much younger than you, but do not pat me on the head. It’s demeaning.”
He pulls his hand back and quirks an eyebrow at her. "You're a little feisty aren't you?"

Once Stefan has pulled over to the side curb Klaus steps out. He easily compels everyone in his path to ignore the bloodstains and makes his way into the luxury boutique. Within moments he’s sitting on a velvet sofa, sipping a cup of hot expensive coffee while he has various pretty sales girls present him with various articles of clothing. He raises his hand and motions Stefan over to him. “See anything you like Stefan?”
Stefan was both confused and surprised, but he walks over and sits on a chair, barely noticing the females rushing over to him. “I get to choose my own articles of clothing this time?”
“I’m not your mother, Stefan. And you’re a big vampire now. I assume you can pick out your own clothes.” He sets down his coffee and stands up. He moves over to one of the sales girls and takes her wrist in his hand. He holds it up to Stefan and smiles. “And what do you think of this watch?” The girl blushes as Klaus brings the wrist up to his lips and pushes the watch aside as he rakes his teeth across her skin. He bites down and takes a generous drink before moving on to another girl. He brushes back her hair and moves the scarf she’s wear aside. “Or maybe you prefer this scarf.”
Stefan can smell the blood rushing underneath her skin and his teeth bare, but he quickly composes himself and walks over, slipping the shoulder of her blazer down. “I happen to like the blazer,” he says, glancing at Klaus before he sinks his teeth into the skin of her shoulder, barely hearing the screams from both of the sales girls.
“Now that’s more like it.” Klaus smiles a bloody smile before continuing to feed on his sales girl.
Stefan knew he was pleasing Klaus, but he didn’t do what he did to please him at all, in fact he couldn’t even say why he did the things he did. Perhaps it was fear that Klaus would do something horrible to him, or perhaps it was just his own wants and needs, but whatever the reason was, he continued to drink the girl’s blood, taking more than a generous dose before he lifted his teeth from her shoulder and grinned, blood running down his face.
Klaus licks his fingers clean before dropping his girl to the floor and then saunters back to the sofa. “In the end your killer instincts always shine through. This is your true nature, Stefan. It’s about time you stopped fighting it.”
Stefan hated it, but Klaus was right; his killer instincts became the only brain he had when he was on human blood and that was never a good thing. “I thought we came here to buy clothes, not eat the ones who were offering to sell them to us.”
“Well they are a full service boutique.” Klaus grins.
“Well then what about the girl behind the mannequin back there?” He asks, cocking an eyebrow. “Shall we play with her or shall we make her suffer?”
"I like the initiative, Stefan. But tonight's games shall have to be paused. Pick a wardrobe. We should get back to the hotel. I have things to prepare."

“Sure, if you like.” She picks up the shot to the far left, which is a faint blue color, and holds it out to him. “You know, it seems a little strange to be accepting drinks from someone who hasn’t even told me his name…” Caroline prods gently, smiling.
”And yet here we are…” He grins. “Do…
”You can call me Nick.” He relents. “And what is your name?”
“Nick…like the Great Gatsby?” She smiles slowly, and takes a moment to cross her legs before answering. “It’s Caroline. Nice to meet you, Nick. You sound like you’re far from home…am I right?”
He laughs. “Are you a fan of Fitzgerald? The 20s were always my favorite era.” He traces the wood grain on the bartop. “Caroline…” he likes the way her name rolls off his tongue. “You guess correctly… I am far away from home. Very far away actually… but I’m open to new opportunities.”

“Ohkay…” She says slowly, but with a smile still on her lips as she turned back to the row. This time, she was more careful, selecting what she judged to be a pretty strong shot and bringing it to her lips slowly. Caroline meets his eyes as she takes it, intrigued by what he’ll do. “Aren’t you going to try any?”
”I guess it would only be fair.” He does take his eyes off her as she takes the shot. “Do you want to pick one for me?”

"And yet here we are..." He grins. "Do you often drink with strangers?" He knocks his shot back and winces slightly when the taste of vervain hits the back of his throat. He'd been play a secret little game of Russian Roulette of sorts with her. If she chose the one with vervain he'd kill her by the end of the night. Seeing as she's somehow managed to turn it around on him, even without knowing it, he'll let her live. It was his little version of Two Face's coin toss.

She smirked softly, a twinkle of mischief in her eyes. God, she’d missed flirting. Her love life had been nothing but worry and fights and concealments - and an almost love-triangle that she didn’t want to think about right now. Too complicated.
“You’d be surprised. I’m not a lightweight.”
Klaus’s smile widens. “Hmm… how about this.” He waves the barkeep over and whispers something in his ear to which the barkeep raises his eyebrow up at before nodding. Soon enough there are a line of five shots of different type of liquors in front of them. “Pick your poison.”
She arches an eyebrow at him before surveying the line of shots, a curious twinge to her smile. She wondered what kind of game he was playing: if she picked a certain shot, what did that mean? Well, Caroline wouldn’t let it mean that she over-thought anything, and she grabbed for the most colorful shot and downed it easily. Even before she’d been a vampire and Damon’s progeny, she’d been good at drinking, and that had only gotten a more prominent skill. She grins when she’s finished, shrugging her shoulder playfully. “How’s that?”
He purses his lips and nods before gesturing to the remaining other shots. “Try another.”
